The Lead DevOps Engineer is a hands-on technical leader responsible for driving DevOps execution, cloud-native platform operations, and CI/CD excellence while managing and mentoring a team of DevOps Engineers.ResponsibilitiesProviding technical leadership and architectural direction across all DevOps initiativesEstablishing engineering standards for CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, container orchestration, observability, and DevSecOps practicesAllocating DevOps resources across concurrent product initiatives based on priorities set by the Director of Product DevelopmentConducting performance evaluations, career development planning, and technical mentorshipEnsuring consistent operational excellence, reliability, security compliance, and automation maturity across environmentsBuilding scalable DevOps processes that enable autonomy within full-stack teams while maintaining governance and architectural alignmentSkillsTypically 7+ years of experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or Platform Engineering roles2–4 years of experience serving in a senior or lead-level DevOps capacityDemonstrated experience leading or mentoring DevOps or infrastructure engineersStrong hands-on experience with Kubernetes and Red Hat OpenShiftStrong hands-on experience with Docker and containerized application deploymentStrong hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD and/or Tekton pipeline implementationStrong hands-on experience with infrastructure-as-code principles and automation scriptingStrong hands-on experience with observability platforms including Prometheus, Grafana, and OpenTelemetryExperience supporting modern application stacks including Java/Groovy Spring Boot microservicesExperience supporting modern application stacks including React and/or Svelte frontendsExperience supporting modern application stacks including MarkLogic, SQL, and Redis data platformsExperience implementing DevSecOps practices, including secure pipeline integrationExperience implementing DevSecOps practices, including identity and access standards (OAuth2/OIDC, Keycloak, JWT)Experience implementing DevSecOps practices, including vulnerability scanning and secrets managementStrong hands-on experience designing and operating cloud-native infrastructureAbility to lead CI/CD architecture and automation initiativesAdvanced troubleshooting skills across infrastructure, networking, application, and data layersExperience implementing high-availability and disaster recovery practicesDemonstrated ability to lead engineers through technical mentorship and exampleStrong cross-functional collaboration skills across development, QA, security, and architectureAbility to balance shared-service DevOps responsibilities across multiple teamsCapable of identifying platform bottlenecks and driving improvement initiativesAble to support modernization efforts while ensuring delivery continuityStrong systems-thinking and risk identification skillsBachelor's degree preferred or equivalent practical experienceExperience operating in healthcare or other regulated environments strongly preferredDemonstrated use of AI-assisted development tools (Cursor, Cline, Claude Code) in automation, infrastructure scripting, or troubleshooting workflows preferredBenefitsMedical, dental, vision, short and long term disability, life insurance, and matching 401kMedical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance401(k) retirement planflexible spending savings accountPaid holidaysPaid time offEmployee assistance programOther company benefitsCompany OverviewThe mission of Hearst Health is to guide healthcare organizations by delivering essential intelligence and software that improve the quality, safety and efficiency of care.
