[Remote] Law Clerk I
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. CGS Federal is seeking a Law Clerk to support the legal mission of a large federal agency. The role involves providing litigation support through tasks such as legal research, document review, and cite checking, while contributing to government innovation and collaboration.
Responsibilities
ā¢ Works under the direction of a Project Supervisor or Project Manager
ā¢ Performs complex legal research for the trial staff
ā¢ Assists in preparing draft legal documents, such as motions, briefs, memoranda of law, etc
ā¢ Reviews and conducts research for ROI (Release of Information)
ā¢ Reviews new cases and conducts research of pertinent laws
ā¢ Edits previously submitted final decisions and writes/researches legal opinions on newest case
ā¢ Edits and reviews cases for issuance
ā¢ Responds to citizen letters
ā¢ Reviews AMICUS briefs
ā¢ Briefs attorneys regarding legal issues, theories and draft statement of facts
ā¢ Assisting attorneys with all phases of litigation
ā¢ Cite checking via online legal research tools (Westlaw and Lexis) and blue book
Skills
ā¢ Requires Juris Doctor (JD) degree, or currently attending an ABA-accredited law school, having completed at least one year of study or, an equivalent level of legal training or experience or an equivalent level of education may be substituted
ā¢ Requires sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources
ā¢ Thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw
ā¢ Extensive experience with cite checking and blue book
ā¢ Experience performing complex legal research
ā¢ Must have hands-on familiarity with a variety of computer applications, including word processing, databases (such as document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, and imaging
ā¢ Ability to consistently deliver highest quality work under extreme pressure will be very important
ā¢ Experience working in a Government and/or Litigation Support environment in conjunction with basic qualifications, preferred
ā¢ Experience with Relativity, strongly preferred and should be referenced within resume
ā¢ Publication of legal writings highly preferred
ā¢ Participation in Law Review highly preferred
ā¢ Current or active clearance
