[Remote] Financial Controller

This role involves overseeing financial reporting, royalty collection, and onboarding new franchise owners while working closely with the CEO and leadership team.ResponsibilitiesOwn the month-end close process and prepare accurate, timely financial statementsMaintain the general ledger, accounts receivable, and accounts payableManage general financial reporting, planning, and budgeting in partnership with leadershipRun payroll and process bonuses and commissions for corporate team membersMaintain cash flow models and fulfill ad hoc financial reporting requests from leadershipCoordinate with external tax advisors on federal, state, and franchise-related tax filingsEstablish and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assetsTrack, calculate, and collect royalty payments across the franchise networkInvoice franchisees for royalty fees and technology fees on a recurring basisReconcile royalty and marketing fund contributions against franchisee reported salesEnsure accurate revenue recognition for initial franchise fees under ASC606Manage ad fund accounting and reporting separately from operating financialsMonitor franchisee financial compliance and flag discrepanciesHandle the financial setup of new franchise owners from signing through launchInvoice and collect initial franchise fees and territory feesCoordinate with operations and legal to ensure all financial onboarding steps are completed accurately and on timeBuild and maintain scalable processes as unit count growsSkills5 plus years of accounting or finance experience, with at least 2 years in a controller or senior accounting roleStrong understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and ASC 606 revenue recognitionExperience in a franchise, multi-unit, or multi-location business environmentProficiency in QuickBooks Online (QBO), Xero, or similar accounting platformsExperience with Ramp or similar expense management platformsAdvanced Excel SkillsDetail oriented, highly organized, and comfortable operating in a fast moving environmentStrong communicator who can translate financial information for non-finance stakeholdersExperience working inside a single-brand franchisor, particularly one that has gone through a private equity transaction or rapid unit growth phaseFamiliarity with franchise disclosure documents and FDD-related financial reportingCPA designationBenefitsPerformance bonusMedical and dental benefitsUnlimited PTOFully remoteCompany OverviewWaterloo Turf is a landscaping company that offers artificial turf solutions for homes and businesses.
