They are seeking a Field Service Engineer to support the installation, maintenance, and repair of sophisticated electron microscopy and analytical instrumentation, delivering exceptional technical service to customers in various sectors. The role involves troubleshooting complex systems, conducting preventive maintenance, and ensuring optimal performance of instrumentation while building strong customer relationships.ResponsibilitiesInstall, maintain, repair, and calibrate electron microscopy systems, including:Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM)Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM)Focused Ion Beam (FIB) systemsConduct scheduled preventive maintenance to ensure optimal system performanceTroubleshoot and diagnose complex system issues involving electronics, vacuum systems, high voltage components, and integrated softwareProvide technical support to customers and collaborate with other field service engineers to resolve service challengesDevelop strong relationships with customers while ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction and system uptimeTravel to customer sites to install equipment, perform repairs, and support system operationDocument service activities and submit detailed field service reportsProvide training and technical guidance to customers on system operation and maintenanceFollow all safety procedures and quality standards while servicing equipment in laboratory environmentsProvide feedback to engineering, product quality, and service leadership teams to support continuous product improvementSupport updates to technical documentation and service proceduresFor more experienced levels, responsibilities may include mentoring junior engineers, leading complex installations, and serving as a technical escalation resourceSkillsBachelor's degree in Electronics, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related technical field or equivalent combination of education and technical experience in electronic systems1+ years of hands-on technical experience installing, troubleshooting, repairing, or calibrating sophisticated analytical equipment such as SEM, TEM, FIB, or similar systems3+ years of hands-on experience installing, troubleshooting, repairing, or calibrating complex analytical instrumentation5+ years of experience supporting sophisticated analytical systems with demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex system-level issuesValid driver's licenseAbility to travel up to 75% within assigned territoryAbility to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in laboratory environmentsEnglish proficiency required, additional languages beneficialExcellent customer service and communication skillsStrong organizational and time management capabilitiesProficiency with Microsoft Office and service management softwareStrong analytical and problem-solving abilitiesAbility to work independently in a field-based environmentAbility to train and support customers on system operationExperience documenting service activities and preparing detailed reportsDemonstrated commitment to safety protocols and quality standardsDemonstrated success contributing to customer satisfaction goalsHands-on experience with SEM, TEM, FIB, or similar advanced analytical systemsExperience diagnosing and repairing ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systemsExperience working with high voltage equipmentStrong electronics and mechanical troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose issues to the component levelAbility to read and interpret technical documentation, schematics, and system diagramsBenefitsThis position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.A choice of national medical and dental plans, and a national vision plan, including health incentive programsEmployee assistance and family support programs, including commuter benefits and tuition reimbursementAt least 120 hours paid time off (PTO), 10 paid holidays annually, paid parental leave (3 weeks for bonding and 8 weeks for caregiver leave), accident and life insurance, and short- and long-term disability in accordance with company policyRetirement and savings programs, such as our competitive 401(k) U.S. retirement savings planEmployees’ Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP) offers eligible colleagues the opportunity to purchase company stock at a discountCompany OverviewThermo Fisher Scientific is a biotechnology and laboratory equipment company that provides a wide range of scientific products and services.
