[Remote] Fall 2026 Legal Intern, National Prison Project
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. The ACLU is seeking a Legal Intern for the National Prison Project at their National office in Washington D.C. This internship is designed for current law students and focuses on prison reform litigation and advocacy work, providing valuable experience in researching and drafting legal documents.ResponsibilitiesResearching and drafting legal memorandum and briefing regarding the rights of incarcerated peopleGathering, analyzing, and synthesizing current information related to prison, jail, and detention center conditionsResearching and drafting prospects for new litigation and / or campaign advocacyAssisting with the drafting, production, and distribution of advocacy and public education materialsProviding other litigation and advocacy support to supervising attorneysSkillsQualifying applicants must currently be matriculated legal students and must be based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internshipSecond and third year law school students pursuing a J.D. degree from an ABA-accredited law school; applicants must have completed at least one year of law school before the internship commencesA demonstrated interest in the rights of incarcerated people and a commitment to civil rightsOutstanding legal research, writing, and communication skillsDemonstrated ability to perform complex legal analytical workStrong organizational skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team.
