[Remote] Fall 2026 Legal Intern, Abortion Criminal Defense Initiative
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. The ACLU is seeking a Legal Intern for the Abortion Criminal Defense Initiative at their National office. This internship provides an opportunity to support advocacy related to the criminalization of abortion care through legal research, writing, and collaboration with coalition partners.ResponsibilitiesConduct legal research and writing including drafting memoranda, portions of briefs, motions, and training resourcesTrack cases and issues of interest to the ACDIAssist with performing intakes for those who contact the ACDI in need of criminal defense representationCenter principles of equity, inclusion, and belonging in all work, embedding the values in program development, policy application, and organizational practices and processesSkillsCurrently matriculated legal students based in the U.S. for the entire duration of the internshipEnrolled at an ABA accredited law school and has completed at least 1L yearExcellent legal research skills, strong legal writing, and ability to conduct complex legal analysisOrganization including good attention to detail, and the ability to balance multiple assignmentsTeam player approach with good communication skills who responds well to feedbackInitiative to see projects through to completionA demonstrated commitment to criminal defense, public interest law, civil rights and liberties, and social justiceBenefitsThis internship is for course credit only.This internship must be tied to the internโs formal education program by integrated coursework or the receipt of academic credit.The ACLU is committed to providing reasonable accommodation to individuals with disabilities.
