[Remote] Engineering Manager, Frontend Platform (Ambient AI)

This role involves overseeing the development of core frontend foundations for Ambient AI products, ensuring high-quality, reliable, and user-friendly experiences for clinicians.ResponsibilitiesLead and grow a senior team of frontend platform engineers supporting Ambient AISet clear technical and execution standards in a high-bar, healthcare-grade environmentCoach engineers on scope ownership, technical decision-making, and cross-team influenceHire and develop engineers who can operate across platform, product, and design boundariesOwn planning, execution, and delivery for platform initiatives with clear product impactOwn the frontend platform used across Ambient experiences (web, mobile, embedded surfaces)Lead architecture for real-time and async workflows (audio capture, streaming updates, AI state transitions)Build and scale shared UI primitives, component libraries, and design systems used across AmbientImprove frontend performance, latency, reliability, and offline/poor-network behaviorEstablish patterns for error handling, loading states, partial data, and confidence signaling in AI workflowsCreate strong frontend abstractions that reduce duplication across Ambient product teamsImprove local dev, testing, CI/CD, and release workflows for frontend engineersDefine standards for frontend observability, performance metrics, and user-impact monitoringPartner with backend and ML teams to define clean contracts between AI systems and UI layersPartner deeply with Product to translate clinical workflows into scalable UI platformsWork closely with Design to evolve clinician-grade design systems and accessibility standardsCollaborate with Compliance and Security to ensure frontend patterns meet healthcare requirementsInfluence frontend technical direction across the broader engineering organizationDrive architectural reviews and RFCs for major Ambient frontend initiativesHelp teams navigate tradeoffs between speed, quality, and safety in AI-driven UXStay close enough to the code and architecture to unblock complex problems when neededEnsure platform decisions anticipate future scale (new care settings, modalities, and products)Skills5+ years of engineering experience, including managing frontend or platform teamsExperience leading frontend platforms, shared UI infrastructure, or design systemsStrong expertise with modern frontend stacks (e.g. React, TypeScript, modern build tooling)Experience supporting real-time, data-intensive, or mission-critical user workflowsProven ability to deliver platform capabilities used by multiple product teamsStrong communication skills and comfort influencing product and technical directionExperience building clinician-facing, enterprise, or regulated productsFamiliarity with AI-driven or ML-powered user experiencesExperience with mobile + web shared platforms or cross-surface design systemsBackground in healthcare, fintech, or other high-reliability domainsCompany OverviewAthelas develops technology to monitor chronically ill patients in their homes.
