[Remote] Employment Attorney/Of Counsel

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Harmon, Curran, Spielberg & Eisenberg, LLP is a small, collegial law firm serving the progressive nonprofit public interest community. They are seeking a senior attorney to provide employment-related advice and legal representation to nonprofit clients on various employment law matters. Responsibilities • Provide employment related advice and counseling to nonprofit organizational clients • Advise clients about their legal obligations and help craft strategies for handling complicated employee matters • Draft employment related materials and review personnel policies and handbooks • Provide legal advice in other areas of nonprofit organization operations, such as structural and governance issues, contractual relationships, and non-discrimination obligations Skills • Seven or more years of employment and/or labor law experience • Experience providing counseling and advice • Experience with a broad range of employment law topics, such as anti-discrimination and anti-harassment law, wage and hour law, family and medical leave and sick and safe leave laws, obligations under express and implied employment contracts, and best practices for handling discipline and separations • Motivated self-starters with strong academic credentials • Excellent writing and communication skills • Sound judgment and the ability to handle complicated matters with minimal supervision • Ability to make judgment calls, assess available strategies and options, and provide feedback and guidance • Strong attention to detail • Comfortable managing multiple and varied client requests • Ability to quickly digest and provide advice regarding new state and federal laws • Member of or eligible for admission to the DC Bar • Experience with employee benefits or labor law • Experience with nonprofit organizations and their operational issues Benefits • Generous vacation and sick leave • Generous health and dental insurance benefits • Annual bonus and profit sharing opportunities Company Overview • For more than forty years, we at Harmon, Curran, Spielberg + Eisenberg, LLP, have served the legal needs of individuals and organizations to help them advance social, economic and environmental justice.
