[Remote] Digital Product Designer, Principal

They are seeking a Principal Digital Product Designer to shape high-impact digital experiences, define product direction, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver thoughtful and inclusive design work.ResponsibilitiesDiscovers and frames ambiguous problems and drives solutions for one or more critical products or strategic projects on digital platformsCraft artifacts that communicate solutions. Including implementation of prototypes, mockups, task analysis, usability studies, personas, user flows, wireframes, style guides, navigational structures, and affinity diagramsIdentifies and leads building out design standards and patterns, style guides, and frameworks for our design systemsLeads new design standards and practices, in collaboration with product, marketing, and engineering teamsFacilitate collaboration with various product managers, engineers, analytics, research, and ensures that the customer’s desires are being fulfilledContribute to task & dependency analysis, scheduling, and risk mitigation plansChampions user research, leads both generative & evaluative User Experience researchProvide mentorship and coaching to grow teamEvangelizes design best practices while uncovering novel and unexpected solutionsSkills10+ years' experience in User Experience, interaction design, information architect, Service design or similar plus3+ years leading projects/mentoring teamsExperience in leadership, collaboration, communicating and influencing design strategyExcellent problem-solving skills and familiarity with technical constraints and limitations when designing for platformsProficient at building and shipping features/products at a department level, leading the end-to-end experience across a variety of platformsDemonstrable track record in leading strategic thinking across a large product space, developing product goals, identifying opportunities and outcomes while continuously developing relationships with cross-functional peersExperience at developing design standards, patterns, style guides, best practices, and frameworks which are accessible and utilize human-centered methodologiesExperience presenting work to executives, clearly and succinctly articulating the goals and conceptsA portfolio demonstrating excellent User Experience design skills for solving complex problems with clear resultsBachelor's degree in Design, HCI, Interaction or similar area, or equivalent practical experienceActively participates and collaborates with others on one's own team and across REI for the achievement of business goalsFlexible in one's viewpoints and positions in order to support the direction taken by others at REIUses business knowledge, innovative thinking, and sound judgment in the solution of problems or the pursuit of business opportunitiesConsolidates information from various sources including feedback from others to reach sound decisionsConsiders the ultimate impact of decisions and actions on internal and external customersWorks smart by setting effective work goals, establishing priorities, and planning well in order to produce quality workExecutes effectively by using resources efficiently, meeting deadlines, and keeping others informed of work plans and progress toward goalsClearly conveys and accurately receives information by a variety of methods and in various situationsBuilds rapport with all kinds of people inside and outside the organizationActs upon opportunities and involves and influences others in the accomplishment of worthwhile organizational goalsChallenges the status quo, champions change and influences others to changeBuilds capacity of individuals and teams through effective employee development, involvement, communication, and supervision effortsCreates a strong, mutually supportive work spirit and culture where people can do their bestEstablishes trust and inspires othersMakes effective organization and people decisions in a manner consistent with REI's values and ethicsDelivers on commitments and holds others to sameChampions the organization and advocates solutions in the overall Company's best interestFosters change in company directionEffectively plans and executes changesPrevious experience supporting retail industry or e-commerce apps and sitesExperience in a highly agile/scrum environmentExcellent communication and presentation skillsBenefitsGenerous employee discountAccess to health benefitsA retirement savings planAccrued time offCompany OverviewAt Recreational Equipment, Inc.
