[Remote] Data Scientist I – Applied AI

The Data Scientist I – Applied AI role involves using analytic and visualization techniques to support data-informed decision-making and building AI-powered applications to solve real-world problems in public health.ResponsibilitiesLeverage skills and technologies across a range of computing platforms, languages, and techniques to solve business problems and optimize processesPrototype, build, and maintain AI-powered tools and workflows using existing models (such as LLMs and embeddings) in Python with APIs, structured data formats, etcIterate on prompts, workflows, and system behavior based on testing and feedback, and support subsequent deployment and operationRemain current with emerging data-science tools, techniques, and best practices, including developments in AI/machine learningSupport the access, combination, and analysis of large, complex datasets from various sources; manipulate, clean, and wrangle datasets under guidance from senior staffContribute to the quality, integrity, and security of dataCreate visualizations and conduct analyses using statistical techniques and machine learning to derive insights from the data and drive actionable reportingPresent findings and insights to diverse audiences; tailor communication to technical and non-technical stakeholders with support from senior team membersWork independently on most tasks and seek guidance for more complex or specialized responsibilitiesCommunicate and present results effectively to clients, management, and staffAnalyze and understand client and business needs; translate them into formal requirementsSkillsAssociate's degree and at least three (3) years of relevant experience in data science, computer science, statistics, applied mathematics, or related field; or bachelor's degree and at least one (1) year of relevant experienceProficiency in PythonFamiliarity with analytic software (such as R or Databricks), Cloud platforms (Azure, AWS), and big-data technologies (such as Spark)Basic Cloud literacy (including an understanding of containers, serverless, etc.) and proficiency using APIs and SDKs (such as OpenAI, Azure, and AWS)Familiarity with AI concepts relevant to working with data and their applications (such as RAG, LangChain/LangGraph, and Vector DBs)Demonstrated ability to work independently on general tasks within the job functionAbility to apply a variety of data-analytics approachesIf required by the project, ability to successfully complete a Level 5 Position of Public Trust background investigation.
