[Remote] Data Center Operations Technician (Remote Hands)

The Remote Hands â Fiber Infrastructure Lead is responsible for the planning, installation, testing, documentation, and ongoing management of fiber infrastructure within a mission-critical data center environment.ResponsibilitiesPerform, lead, and oversee fiber infrastructure installations throughout the data center, including: Fiber trunk installations between meetâme rooms (MMRs), cabinets, cages, and data hallsInstallation, labeling, dressing, and documentation of fiber patch panelsFiber crossâconnect installations, modifications, and removalsInstall, terminate, test, certify, and troubleshoot fiber cabling and connectivity using approved tools and test equipmentEnsure all fiber work complies with company standards, structured cabling best practices, safety requirements, and applicable specificationsBuild, manage, and maintain fiber connectivity records using approved inventory, documentation, and ticketing systemsMaintain accurate and auditable documentation for fiber inventory, ports, panels, pathways, and customer interconnectionsRespond to fiberârelated service requests, incidents, and outages and support restoration efforts as requiredServe as the siteâlevel SME for fiber infrastructure, interconnections, and physicalâlayer connectivityTrain, coach, and mentor Data Center Facility Technicians to safely and consistently perform fiber installations and crossâconnect workEstablish and reinforce standard methods for fiber installation, labeling, testing, and documentationCoordinate and oversee vendorâperformed fiber installations and ensure compliance with safety, quality, and procedural requirementsInspect and validate completed fiber work for accuracy, workmanship, and documentation completenessCrossâtrain with the Data Center Facility Technician role and maintain proficiency to perform all associated duties when requiredSupport data center operational activities, including routine inspections, basic troubleshooting, and coordinated incident responseAssist with equipment moves, adds, changes, and decommissions where fiber or physical infrastructure involvement is requiredProvide Remote Hands support for customer and internal requests, including cable tracing, visual verification, crossâconnect execution, and physical component handlingSupport incident response and maintenance activities by assisting with diagnostics, stabilization efforts, communication, and documentationCoordinate work activities with remote operations, engineering, and operations control center (OCC) teamsComply with all company safety, security, and compliance requirements, including LOTO, JHAs, and site access controlsMaintain clean, organized, and compliant cabling pathways, equipment areas, and workspacesFollow established change management, MOP/SOP, and documentation proceduresParticipate in required safety training, operational readiness activities, audits, and drillsSkillsHigh school diploma or GED required; technical, vocational, or telecommunications education preferredHands-on experience installing, terminating, testing, and overseeing fiber infrastructure and cross-connects in data center environmentStrong knowledge of structured fiber cabling systems, standards, panels, terminations, and pathwaysProficiency with fiber test equipment, including power meters, inspection tools, and certification testersAbility to train and mentor others in technical procedures and best practicesStrong organizational, documentation, and technical inventory management skillsAbility to safely lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work in confined environmentsAvailability to work rotating shifts, weekends, holidays, and on-call assignments as requiredExperience working in multi-tenant or colocation data center environmentsExperience with fiber splicing, trunk builds, and high-density fiber deploymentsFamiliarity with interconnection provisioning processes and physical network inventory systemsExperience coordinating and overseeing vendor or contractor-performed fiber installationsExposure to data center mechanical, electrical, and life-safety systems through cross-training or operational supportBenefitsMedical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance401(k) retirement planďŹexible spending and HSA accountsPaid holidaysPTOEmployee assistance programOther company benefitsA fast-paced, entrepreneurial culture focused on innovationA flexible, autonomous work environmentA culture of respect, learning, and excellenceExperienced, highly talented experts as team peersGrowth and travel opportunitiesA team of change-makers having a significant impact on people and the planetCompany OverviewEdged is an information technology company that launches a global network of sustainable data centers and energy infrastructure.
