The role involves monitoring security alerts, responding to incidents, and collaborating with various teams to enhance cybersecurity measures.ResponsibilitiesMonitor the McGraw Hill Splunk SIEM platform for security alertsHandle 2 daily transition calls with the evening SOC team in India, at 9:15 AM EST and 4:15 PM ESTPerform standard operating procedures (SOPs) for each alert type, to quickly respond to security alerts and investigate them until closureWork with IT personnel to report violations and close security alertsLeverage our security automation tool (Splunk SOAR) for responding to incidentsEscalating any P1 (high priority) alerts immediately to the SOC managerPerform phishing email attack investigationsPerform triage steps when end users fall victim to attacksPerform threat hunting on attack techniques commonly used by adversariesProvide testing and supplemental support for Cybersecurity engineer project tasksTrack security incidents in a spreadsheet for monthly metricsPerform daily, weekly, and monthly threat hunting tasksSkillsA passion for infosec, analytical skills and a quick learnerBasic cybersecurity skillsGeneral understanding of servers, applications, LDAP, DNS, IP addressing and subnetting, portsFamiliarity with Splunk and how to run Splunk queries is a bonusAwareness or knowledge of Python and PowerShell is a bonusStrong communication skillsUnderstanding of email headersGeneral understanding of malware sandboxing technologyUnderstanding of malware and phishing tools/techniquesGeneral understanding of AI and MCPExperience triaging cloud and web-app related security alertsAWS and/or cybersecurity related training and certifications are a plusBenefitsA full range of medical and/or other benefits may be provided, depending on the position offeredCompany OverviewWe are a leading global education company that partners with millions of educators, learners and professionals around the world.
