[Remote] Consulting Manager, Education Research

The Consulting Manager in Education Research will lead projects, mentor junior staff, and help clients achieve organizational effectiveness and improved student outcomes while implementing new technologies and aligning resources for sustainability.ResponsibilitiesServe in interim leadership and senior individual contributor roles (e.g., Controller, Associate Controller, Assistant Controller) for higher education institutionsAct as a subject matter expert in accounting with a strong understanding of university operations, governance, and regulatory considerationsLead the resolution of complex financial reporting issues and respond to financial inquiries by performing detailed analysis within general ledger and financial reporting systemsDemonstrate intellectual curiosity and persistence in identifying root causes of accounting or reporting issues, reconciling data, and improving processesDevelop project plans to address client challenges and maintain project momentum for the entire project teamTrain, mentor, and supervise client staff and Huron engagement team members, including junior resources staffed as projects expandPerform and/or Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including close processes, reconciliations, budget support, and financial reportingLeverage audit experience to support external audit coordination, respond to auditor inquiries, and strengthen internal controlsContribute experience from finance system implementations or transitions, including supporting end users through system changes and data validationPresent financial information, findings, and recommendations to senior administrators and executives, articulating both detailed analysis and broader strategic implicationsDeliver strong verbal and written communications on project work that is clear, concise, and easily understood by non-technical individualsCollaborate with FinOps and broader Huron teams to identify opportunities for expanded support as interim engagements evolveSkillsU.S. work authorization requiredBachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field from an accredited college or university, or equivalent relevant work experienceMBA or other relevant advanced degree in accounting or finance highly preferredCertified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferredSignificant experience in accounting and finance roles within a consulting and/or higher education environmentStrong experience serving in a Program Controller, Accountant, Auditor, Assurance, or Financial Reporting capacityDemonstrate experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial managementHands-on experience with financial systems such as Ellucian/Banner, Oracle, Workday, or similar platformsPassion for and commitment to the higher education industryAbility to travel up to 50% annually and work extended hours as needed to meet client and project demandsSeeking Assistant Controller/Controller experienceAudit experience, either as a practicing auditor or as part of an institutional role collaborating directly with external auditorsExperience participating in financial system implementation or major system transitionBenefitsMedical, dental and vision coverageOther wellness programsCompany OverviewHuron is a global professional services firm that collaborates with organizations to solve complex challenges and achieve ambitious goals.
