[Remote] Benefits & Leave Specialist - REMOTE Gov't Contracting

Matrix Providers is a company focused on government contracting, and they are seeking a Benefits & Leave Specialist to administer employee benefit programs and manage leave processes across a multi-state workforce. This role ensures compliance with various federal and state regulations while serving as a subject matter expert for employee benefits and leave inquiries.
Responsibilities
⢠Administer employee benefit programs including medical, dental, vision, life, disability, 401(k), HSA, FSA, and supplemental benefits
⢠Manage new hire enrollment, qualifying life events, open enrollment, and terminations
⢠Coordinate with carriers and brokers to resolve enrollment discrepancies
⢠Audit payroll deductions for benefit accuracy
⢠Reconcile benefit invoices and support monthly carrier billing review
⢠Educate employees on benefit options and eligibility
⢠Administer FMLA, state family/medical leave programs (e.g., WA PFML, CFRA), and company LOA policies
⢠Coordinate ADA interactive process in partnership with HR leadership
⢠Track intermittent and continuous leave usage
⢠Review medical certifications for completeness and compliance
⢠Maintain accurate leave tracking logs and ensure timely notices
⢠Coordinate return-to-work processes and fitness-for-duty documentation
⢠Ensure compliance with: FMLA, ADA, COBRA, ERISA, ACA, State-specific leave laws, Service Contract Act (SCA) H&W benefit application (if applicable)
⢠Generate required employee notices and maintain documentation
⢠Assist with DOL audits or benefits-related investigations
⢠Work closely with Payroll to ensure accurate benefit deductions and leave coding
⢠Maintain benefit and leave data within HRIS (e.g., ADP Workforce Now)
⢠Generate reports for leadership, compliance, and financial review
⢠Assist with system testing during benefit renewals or plan changes
⢠Respond to employee inquiries regarding coverage, premiums, eligibility, and leave rights
⢠Provide clear guidance while maintaining confidentiality
⢠Support managers with leave-related questions
Skills
⢠3+ years of experience in benefits administration and/or leave management
⢠Strong working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, COBRA, and state leave laws
⢠Experience with HRIS systems (ADP Workforce Now preferred)
⢠Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data reconciliation
⢠Ability to manage confidential information
⢠Strong written and verbal communication skills
⢠Experience in multi-state employer environment
⢠Experience supporting federal contracts or SCA employees
⢠CEBS, PHR, SHRM-CP, or Leave Management certification
⢠Experience with ACA reporting
