[Remote] Assistant General Counsel, Consumer Protection & External Affairs
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Strategic Education, Inc. is seeking an Assistant General Counsel to provide legal advice and serve as in-house counsel on various matters. The role involves assisting with federal regulatory matters, litigation, and providing legal analysis on policy matters.
Responsibilities
ā¢ Assist with federal regulatory matters related to two accredited institutions of higher education
ā¢ Assist with litigation and administrative proceedings to which the company is a party
ā¢ Provide legal analysis and advice to administrators on policy matters, especially regulatory compliance issues
ā¢ Investigate legal issues and recommend action to administrators
ā¢ Negotiate and draft contracts: draft legal documents and policies
ā¢ Research federal and state legal questions
ā¢ Assist with general corporate matters
ā¢ Review university programs, procedures, and policies for legal compliance
ā¢ Provide legal and compliance training to in-house clients

ā¢ Provides legal advice and serves as in-house counsel to Strategic Education on a wide variety of matters
ā¢ Assist with federal regulatory matters related to two accredited institutions of higher education
ā¢ Assist with litigation and administrative proceedings to which the company is a party
ā¢ Provide legal analysis and advice to administrators on policy matters, especially regulatory compliance issues
ā¢ Investigate legal issues and recommend action to administrators
ā¢ Negotiate and draft contracts: draft legal documents and policies
ā¢ Research federal and state legal questions
ā¢ Assist with general corporate matters
ā¢ Review university programs, procedures, and policies for legal compliance
ā¢ Provide legal and compliance training to in-house clients
ā¢ Excellent analytical, oral, and written communications skills
ā¢ Excellent interpersonal skills
ā¢ Strong computer/word processing skills, including knowledge of standard Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
ā¢ Ability and willingness to apply independent judgment in a dynamic environment
ā¢ At least three years of experience in the practice of law
ā¢ Bachelor's degree and JD from an ABA-accredited law school
ā¢ Bar admission, or ability to become admitted, in one or more of the following jurisdictions: Virginia, Minnesota, Maryland, or Washington, DC
ā¢ Must be able to travel 10% of the time
ā¢ Must be able to lift 25 lbs
ā¢ Typical office setting
ā¢ Mobility within the office including movement from floor to floor
ā¢ Travel via plane, car, and metro may be required to perform this job
ā¢ Must be able to work more than 40 hours per week when business needs warrant
ā¢ Access information using a computer
ā¢ Effectively communicate, both up and down the management chain
ā¢ Effectively cope with stressful situations
ā¢ Strong mental acuity
ā¢ Regular, dependable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this job
ā¢ Higher education experience preferred
