[Remote] Assistant Controller, Financial Reporting

Medidata Solutions is seeking an Assistant Controller for Financial Reporting, a senior leadership role focused on the integrity and efficiency of the company's general ledger and monthly close cycle. This role involves managing a team, overseeing parent company reporting, driving ERP integration, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards.ResponsibilitiesOwn and manage the end-to-end monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycle, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with IFRS and group reporting standardsOversee the preparation and delivery of monthly financial reporting packages to the parent company, serving as the primary point of contact for parent company inquiriesManage the parent company ERP interface at each month-end, including real-time troubleshooting of integration issuesEnsure journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting documentation meet audit standards and internal control requirementsLead, develop, and retain a team of five, including two manager-level direct reportsSet clear performance expectations, provide ongoing coaching, and build a culture of accountability and continuous improvementIdentify and drive opportunities to automate and streamline accounting processes, leveraging technology including AI tools where appropriatePlay a critical leadership role in the company's ongoing ERP consolidation to SAP, representing Financial Reporting in cross-functional workshops and implementation decisionsPartner with the systems and IT teams to ensure accounting data integrity across integrated platformsManage the internal audit process, including coordination of auditor requests, testing support, and timely responses to inquiriesLead the Financial Reporting function's participation in external auditsEnsure adherence to internal controls, company policies, and parent company reporting requirementsParticipate with senior finance and accounting leadership in establishing operational objectives and continuous improvement prioritiesContribute to the development of accounting policies, procedures, and evaluation criteria for systems and process initiativesRepresent Financial Reporting in cross-functional projects and executive-level discussions as requiredSkills8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a management role overseeing a teamDeep working knowledge of accounting standards and general ledger accounting principlesDemonstrated experience managing a full monthly close cycle in a mid-to-large organizationStrong systems aptitude — experience with ERP platforms (Workday, SAP, NetSuite, or similar) and a track record of driving process improvementProven ability to manage and develop accounting teams through periods of changeExperience interfacing with parent company, external auditors, or senior leadership on financial reporting mattersCPA or equivalent experience; candidates without a CPA but with strong Financial Reporting track records are encouraged to applyBackground in computer science, information systems, or a related technical field — a meaningful advantage given the systems complexity of this roleExperience with ERP implementations or consolidations, particularly SAPSaaS or technology industry experienceFamiliarity with AI-enabled accounting tools and automation technologiesBenefitsCommission on the terms of applicable plan documents for most sales positionsAnnual bonuses for many of Medidata's non-sales positionsMedical insuranceDental insuranceLife insuranceDisability insurance401(k) matchingFlexible paid time off10 paid holidays per yearCompany OverviewMedidata is powering smarter treatments and healthier people through digital solutions to support clinical trials.
