The Actuarial Sr. Consultant will lead pricing analysis and strategy, acting as a key partner to underwriting leaders, while also supporting broader business decisions and modeling initiatives.ResponsibilitiesLead actuarial pricing analysis and strategy support for Professional Lines products and portfoliosAct as a primary actuarial point of contact for underwriting leaders, helping connect analysis to business strategy and portfolio decisionsPerform and communicate actuarial analysis in a way that supports changes to the book, pricing recommendations, and broader business decisionsPartner across actuarial and business functions to evaluate performance, identify opportunities, and influence next stepsSupport modeling-related work over time, particularly as future projects develop across the team’s portfolioActs a technical expert of actuarial methodologies allowing the ability to source and manipulate data within standard requirementsConducts complex analyses, adhering to actuarial standards, by selecting appropriate data sources, making assumptions, recognizing considerations and developing recommendations. Accountable for resolving unreasonable results/non-optimal solutions using experience and professional judgment. Begins using results to influence decisions at a higher levelAccurately documents assumptions, methods, sources and considerations in an organized fashionPrepares and presents actuarial findings and documents that are suitable for technical and non-technical audiences at the senior Actuarial leadership level. May professionally represent company's position with regulators, auditors and external vendors. May negotiate within defined parametersDevelops cross functional work plans and ensures accurate work product is deliveredLeads cross functional peer reviews to increase collaboration, ensure quality work and drive innovationBuilds business relationships and leads cross functional communication with team members, customers and business partnersLeads onboarding and training for new associates on standard work processes. Assists in creating new training materialsApplies data mining techniques used to identify new relationships in data and make recommendations based on findings. Has expert ability or knowledge of modeling, validation and predictive modeling. Explores the use of new software packages and makes recommendationsSkillsStrong actuarial pricing experience in Property & Casualty insurance, with the ability to work independently and operate as a senior business-facing partnerAbility to communicate effectively with underwriting leaders and other business partners, not just perform technical analysisStrong actuarial foundation in technical tools such as Excel, SQL, and PythonDetailed familiarity with business operations, systems, and actuarial methodologiesAdept at complex actuarial techniques and work independently to combine advanced actuarial and business knowledge to provide high-level analysisExpertise to provide consultation and recommendations on deliverables and maintain detailed documentation of actuarial models and analysesGenerally six or more years of actuarial experienceUndergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, data science or similar background requiring modeling, programming or quantitative analysisGenerally attained ACAS and is working towards FCAS or recently attained FCASDetailed knowledge of actuarial business functions, statistical methods of analysis, actuarial models, actuarial software and databasesProficient in Microsoft Office products, analytical software and programming languagesBasic competencies including command skills, strategic agility, delegation, motivating others, business perspective and accountingProficient competencies including business understanding, problem solving, customer focus, dealing with ambiguity, drive for results and learning abilityProfessional Lines experience is strongly preferredBackground in a smaller carrier or similarly hands-on environment where you have needed to work broadly across pricing, strategy, and technical analysisModeling experience, especially for candidates who can pair pricing expertise with broader analytical or predictive-modeling capabilityExperience with Python, R, or similar coding toolsBenefitsMedical/dental/visionLife insuranceShort and long term disability coveragePaid time off with newly hired associates receiving a minimum of 18 days paid time off each full calendar year pro-rated quarterly based on hire dateNine paid holidays8 hours of Lifetime paid time off8 hours of Unity Day paid time off401(k) with company matchCompany-paid pension planBusiness casual attireCompany OverviewNationwide focuses on providing life and commercial insurance benefits along with home, business, renter and auto insurance services.
