[Remote] Accounting and Finance Manager

They are seeking a strategic and collaborative Manager of Finance & Accounting to oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance, while also developing the accounting team and improving financial processes.ResponsibilitiesOversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close activitiesReview journal entries, accruals, allocations, reconciliations, and supporting schedules prepared by accounting staffReview monthly financial statements and management reporting packagesMaintain accounting policies and proceduresEnsure compliance with GAAP, organizational policies, and applicable regulatory requirementsMonitor accounting operations and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, consistency, and accuracyProvide technical accounting guidance to staffCoordinate annual financial statement audits and other external examinationsCoordinate preparation of Forms 990 and 990-TCoordinate Charitable registration and regulatory filingsCoordinate Census Bureau surveys, Bureau of Labor Statistics reporting, workersโ compensation, retirement plan, and other required reportingSupport compliance with donor, grant, regulatory, and organizational reporting requirementsIdentify opportunities to strengthen compliance processes and internal controlsDevelopment, maintain and monitor internal controls across accounting and finance processesMonitor compliance with established accounting policies and proceduresIdentify financial and operational risks and recommend improvementsLead documentation of control activities and finance proceduresSupport organizational compliance and risk management initiativesPromote consistency and accountability across finance operationsSupport administration of finance systems and coordinate system enhancements and improvementsLead implementation and optimization of workflows, forms, approval processes, and system integrationsDevelop and maintain finance process maps, standard operating procedures, and training materialsIdentify opportunities to automate manual processes and improve operational efficiencyCoordinate testing, implementation, and enhancement of accounting and operational systemsDevelop user-friendly financial procedures, templates, and guidance materialsSupervise, coach, and develop accounting staffManage performance, workload allocation, and professional development activitiesReview work performed by accounting staff and provide guidance on accounting and reporting mattersFoster collaboration and knowledge sharing across the Finance & Accounting teamSupport succession planning and staff development initiativesWork collaboratively with program, development, operations, and People & Culture teams to support organizational financial managementProvide guidance to non-finance staff regarding financial procedures, coding, approvals, purchasing, and expense managementSupport leadership requests for financial information, analyses, and operational recommendationsServe as primary backup to the Senior Director of Finance & AccountingSkillsBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field7+ years of progressive experience in accounting, financial reporting, audit, compliance, or operational financeStrong understanding of month-end close, reconciliations, accrual accounting, and financial reporting processesExperience supporting audits and regulatory reporting requirementsExperience reviewing accounting transactions, reconciliations, and financial statementsAdvanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, and financial analysis functionsExperience working with ERP systems and finance applicationsStrong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skillsExcellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively across teamsBenefitsHealth and Wellness: Medical, dental, vision, long-term and short-term disability, and life insurance.Financial Security: After one year of service, American Rivers begins contributing a 3% employer contribution.
