About the position
The Registered Peer Support Specialist (RPSS) is an individual with lived experience in mental health and/or substance use recovery who provides strength-based, person-centered support to individuals receiving services. The RPSS utilizes their personal recovery journey to inspire hope, promote self-determination, and assist individuals in achieving and maintaining recovery while navigating behavioral health systems.
Responsibilities
ā¢ Provide peer recovery support services based on shared lived experience
ā¢ Establish trusting, supportive relationships that promote recovery
ā¢ Assist individuals in identifying strengths, goals, and recovery pathways
ā¢ Support engagement in treatment and community resources
ā¢ Collaborate on recovery planning and goal development
ā¢ Assist with community integration (housing, employment, social supports)
ā¢ Complete documentation in compliance with DBHDS and DMAS standards
ā¢ Participate in team meetings and interdisciplinary collaboration
Requirements
ā¢ Registered Peer Recovery Specialist (PRS/RPSS) in Virginia
ā¢ High School Diploma or GED
ā¢ Lived experience in recovery
ā¢ Completion of DBHDS-approved training program
ā¢ Ability to pass background checks
Nice-to-haves
ā¢ Experience in behavioral health or substance use services
ā¢ Knowledge of DBHDS and Medicaid requirements
ā¢ Strong communication skills
ā¢ Experience with electronic health records
