Regional Planner & GIS Specialist
The Hancock County Planning Commission (HCPC) is seeking a Regional Planner with strong GIS capability and experience in environmental, natural resource, and land use planning. This role focuses on environmental and land use work while supporting GIS needs across a range of planning projects, requiring collaboration and project management skills.ResponsibilitiesSupervises and participates in various planning projects such as: Comprehensive Plans, Transportation Plans, Housing Assessments, and Environmental and Resilience PlansProduces original land use maps and other graphic materialsDraft and review local ordinances and regulationsConduct specialized planning researchPrepare and deliver public presentationsProvide technical assistance and training coordination to municipal officialsDevelop funding proposals for future work and administer funded programsCommunicate, collaborate, and coordinate with internal staff, local and regional groups, and governmental agenciesAttend regular meetings of the Commission as requiredAttend meetings of local, regional, and state groups and committees, planning seminars, and conferences. This includes evening meetingsSkillsBachelor's degree in urban or regional planning, landscape architecture, environmental science, geography, natural resources, public policy, or a related fieldAt least one year of planning experience that includes hands-on use of GIS softwareDemonstrated experience using GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS for spatial data analysis and visualizationValid driver's license and reliable transportationMaster's degreeGISP certificationAICP certification or eligibilityCompany OverviewA voluntary association of governments in Hancock County, Maine.
