Realtime Captioner/Transcriber (CART Captionist)
The Language Doctors, Inc., a US-based linguistic company, is seeking experienced real-time captioners with the necessary equipment to provide CART services for a series of on-demand assignments, which could be on-site or remote.
??Basic Qualifications...
Ā Hearing Proficiency: Ability to hear spoken English clearly.
Ā Technical Skills: Proficient in using a stenographic machine, laptop, and captioning software to provide real-time, word-for-word transcriptions of spoken English into text.
Ā Software Knowledge: Familiarity with StreamText software.
Ā Equipment: Must own captioning equipment, including a steno machine, laptop, full-version translation software/license, and required accessories needed to provide CART services.
Ā Ethical Standards: Understanding of ethical standards, appropriate roles, and responsibilities related to auxiliary services and real-time captioning.
Ā Certifications: Certified Realtime Captioner (CRC), Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR), or Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) through the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) are a plus.
??Additional Qualifications and Skills
Ā Experience: 2+ years of CART captioning experience in a professional setting.
Ā Subject Knowledge: Ability to learn and use vocabulary, terminology, and basic information across various subjects commonly found in a university environment.
Ā Dictionary Management: Skill in using, adding to, and maintaining a captioning dictionary to include specialized, technical vocabulary and terminology related to courses.
Ā Proofreading/Editing: Strong proofreading and editing skills.
