R&D Engineer
Who we areIntegral is building technologies to treat neurological and psychiatric disorders. Our first device is a miniaturized, implanted, deep-brain interface for severely affected patients. It will have unprecedented capabilities for recording and modulating neural activity and for monitoring patients’ symptoms. This device will dramatically advance our ability to treat brain disorders and to understand their biological causes. We will use this unique discovery platform to develop an expanding range of more effective treatments that will ultimately be accessible to everyone.Leadership:Flip Sabes, CSO - Neuralink cofounder, UCSF Professor Emeritus, neuroscientist and neurotech innovatorMilan Cvitkovic, CEO - Neurotech venture builder; previously first-hire at Convergent Research, AI researcher, and software engineerStephen O'Driscoll, VP of Engineering - Verily cofounder and former Head of Electrical Engineering, former Director of Device Electronics at Science CorpWe prioritize ambitious engineering, speed, and patients' needs. What you'll doYou will personally own multiple mission-critical R&D efforts as part of developing and shipping our first device, including at least one of the following:Process development and testing of our device’s novel electrodes and leadsElectrode coating development and testingSurgical process development and insertion toolsBenchtop testing and data analysis (e-chem, mechanical, electrical)In vivo testing and data analysisPackaging and sterilizationWe work full-time, in-person in South San Francisco. Who we’re looking forYou should have exceptional abilities in at least one of the following areas:Medical device design and assemblyThin-film electrode design and developmentThin-film electrical interconnect developmentCoating developmentElectrochemical test developmentElectrical, mechanical, and biocompatibility testingSurgical tool developmentPackaging and sterilizationIn vivo neurophysiology data collection and analysis, ideally with novel devicesImage analysisYou should also have:The desire to get your hands dirty: drive CAD, write python, rapidly prototype, etc.Cross-disciplinary knowledge of disciplines like MechE, materials science, biology, medical imaging, or software engineeringDeep understanding of fundamental engineering design principlesA track record of swift executionExperience bringing implantable devices to market is a bonus.Neurotechnology experience is not necessary.
