Psychologist (or PsyC) - Bariatric Evaluations

Summary

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Psychologist (or graduated Psychologist Candidate working towards licensure who would work under LP supervision) to join our team at Alpine Assessments, PLLC (sister company of Center for Valued Living, PLLC) in Colorado. In this part time role, you will conduct thorough psychological evaluations for bariatric patients seeking surgery. The position is part time, PRN, flexible. Depending on the flow of referrals, you would be able conduct anywhere from two to four evaluations per week, averaging five to seven hours for each evaluation, with report writing. You determine your own schedule. These evaluations may be done via telehealth. Training would be provided.

Responsibilities

1. Conduct Comprehensive Psychosocial Assessments
β€’ Evaluate patients' mental health history, current psychological status, and readiness for surgery.
β€’ Assess for conditions such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders, substance use, and cognitive impairments that may impact surgical outcomes.
β€’ Identify strengths and potential barriers to success post-surgery (e.g., social support, coping mechanisms).

2. Evaluate Behavioral and Lifestyle Factors
β€’ Review patients’ understanding of the surgery and required lifestyle changes.
β€’ Assess dietary habits, physical activity, emotional eating, and previous weight loss attempts.
β€’ Screen for maladaptive behaviors like binge eating, night eating syndrome, smoking, or food addiction.

3. Provide Recommendations and Clinical Impressions
β€’ Summarize findings in a detailed written report to the bariatric surgical team.
β€’ Determine psychological clearance or recommend further intervention (e.g., therapy, substance abuse treatment) prior to surgery.
β€’ Offer insights into patient motivation, treatment adherence likelihood, and support system adequacy.

4. Educate and Support Patients
β€’ Provide psychoeducation about the psychological aspects of bariatric surgery, including potential emotional responses post-surgery.
β€’ Help patients set realistic expectations and goals for post-operative adjustment.
β€’ Support development of behavioral plans for post-surgical success.
β€’ Feedback sessions after completion of report.

5. Collaborate with the Multidisciplinary Team
β€’ Work closely with medical team members and referral sources.
β€’ Participate in team meetings and case consultations.

6. Maintain Accurate and Compliant Documentation
β€’ Ensure all evaluations are documented according to legal, ethical, and insurance requirements.
β€’ Use standardized assessment tools as appropriate (e.g., MBMD).

7. Stay Informed on Current Best Practices
β€’ Participate in continuing education and training in bariatric psychology and related fields.

Requirements
β€’ Doctoral degree in Psychology from an accredited institution.
β€’ Licensed or license-eligible as a psychologist or psychologist candidate in Colorado.
β€’ Experience in psychological testing and report writing is required.
β€’ Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
β€’ Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to connect with diverse populations.
β€’ Familiarity with telehealth practices is a plus.
β€’ Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
