Prosecution Paralegal
The City and County of Denver is seeking a Prosecution Paralegal for its City Attorney's Office, which serves as the chief legal counsel for the city. The role involves supporting prosecution attorneys in legal research, case preparation, and courtroom support in criminal and administrative court environments.ResponsibilitiesConducts legal and factual research into various cases and/or matters, such as identifying essential witnesses and evidence, interviewing witnesses, memorializing witness statements, and locating needed evidencePrepares and provides materials, documentation, and reports on the research resultsAssists with the preparation of basic pleadings and legal documents, such as motions, summons, subpoenas, exhibits, responses to discovery requests, and prepares other legal documents as requested or requiredProvides support to trial attorneys in various cases and/or matters such as arraignments, trials, and hearingsAssembles and prepares documentation and/or exhibits based on materials developed during investigatory and discovery stagesAssists with the preparation of witness binders/packets for motions hearings and/or trialPrepares exhibits for hearings including assembling and preparing trial or hearing notebooks/packets and/or exhibitsAssists with motions hearings and trials by preparing necessary documentationProvides support functions for documentation control, coordinating exhibits and witnesses during trials and hearings, and provides immediate research and documentation retrieval when called uponAssists attorneys with interviewing witnesses, gathering, analyzing, and researching data such as statutes, decisions, legal articles, codes and regulationsPrepares drafts of written legal documents as necessarySets appointments and handles correspondence per attorney requestAssists with investigation of facts to ensure the strongest case possible and assists in case preparationAssists in setting up case files, prepares requests and obtains necessary documentationOrganizes and indexes case/matter documentation making it available and easily accessible to attorneysFiles legal documentation in the proper court or filing systemProvides quality control by assuring the work product is error-free and that the work on each case file is comprehensive and up-to-dateAssists in administering routine document preparation, responds to client inquiries/ communications and performs document managementProvides coverage for staff and other duties as requested by supervisorSkillsGraduation from high school or the possession of a GED, HiSET or TASC CertificateOne (1) year of full-time paralegal equivalent experience in a public or private law office, not including internshipsBy position, possession of Paralegal CertificationLicenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employmentExperience and proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 SuiteExperience and proficiency with AdobeExperience and proficiency with ProWestlaw or LexisNexisAbility to effectively communicate with victims, witnesses, clients, attorneys, and other staff membersAbility to multi-task, prioritize, and work effectively in a fast-paced environmentStrong attention to detailExcellent problem-solving skills and ability to work well under pressureA self-starter and team-playerExcited and motivated to learn more about the court systemBenefitsA guaranteed life-long monthly pension, once vested after 5 years of service457B Retirement Plan140 hours of PTO earned within first year + 12 paid holidays, 1 personal holiday, 1 Wellness Day and 1 volunteer day per yearCompetitive medical, dental and vision plans effective within 1 month of start dateCompany OverviewThe City and County of Denver has adopted the "Adoption of Level Red-Severe Risk" Public Health Order, as amended by Colorado Public Health.
