Professional Engineer Designate - Engineer in Training
The City of Winnipeg is one of the largest employers in Manitoba, providing a range of services to its community. They are seeking a Professional Engineer Designate β Engineer in Training (E.I.T.) who will undertake various engineering assignments related to water and wastewater infrastructure, including data analysis, project management, and field inspections under the supervision of a licensed engineer.ResponsibilitiesAssist in planning related to the Cityβs water and wastewater infrastructure to ensure the level of service being provided is at acceptable and expected standardsUndertake engineering design, project management and/or contract administration for capital and operational projects, including the preparation of bid documents and capital and operational cost estimatesPerform a variety of engineering analyses, which may include calculations, hydraulic modeling, capacity assessments, and infrastructure condition assessmentsProvide recommendations with respect to design alternatives, capital costs, operational costs, operational risk, and customer impacts ensuring the proposed design minimizes impacts to the environmentAssist in the design review of proposed modifications to existing infrastructure and new development proposals to ensure designs comply with City servicing criteria and minimize customer, operational and environmental impactsReview design documents, as-built drawings, field survey data, property data and utility data for conflicts with proposed worksAdminister field data collection and monitoring programs to assess and optimize system performanceReview and become familiar with all relevant licensing requirements under which facilities operateProvide customer service, respond to customer inquiries and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external contactsProvide written reports and presentations to document engineering analyses, recommendations and system performancePerform other related duties consistent with the position as assignedSkillsMust have a Bachelor of Science degree in EngineeringMust be eligible to be registered as an Engineer in Training with the Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (E.G.M.) within 3 monthsAnalytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to be flexible and active in developing innovative methodologiesOrganizational and project planning skills to plan, organize, prioritize and coordinate work and resources with a high degree of independenceAbility to prepare engineering reports and make recommendationsKnowledge of the techniques and technologies relating to the operation of the sewage collection system and land drainage including the flood protection systemBasic knowledge of the municipal wastewater, water, and land drainage systemsDemonstrated communication and interpersonal skills, including written and group presentation skillsDemonstrated ability to operate a personal computer using various software applications, including Microsoft Office (e.g. Outlook, Word, Excel)Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization, external contacts and the public, in accordance with the Respectful Workplace StandardKnowledge of economic analysis methodologiesAbility to work extended hours in emergency situationsIMPORTANT: Applicants who have been educated outside of Canada must have education which is comparable to the minimum qualification in Canada.
