About the position Responsibilities • Analyze proposed policies and standards to assess their potential impact on the department's operations and strategic goals. • Monitor existing policies and standards for necessary updates due to new legislation or regulations. • Prepare clear and concise summaries and reports on policy developments for internal stakeholders. • Manage internal staff inquiries and communications regarding the policy creation and change process. • Collaborate with legal counsel and subject matter experts to ensure compliance with relevant policies and standards. • Facilitate the development and implementation of new internal policies and procedures to support compliance efforts. • Support the department's interests in internal and external policy discussions and forums. • Manage and implement policies and procedures to ensure compliance with open records laws. • Stay informed about federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies impacting the technology sector. Requirements • A minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated full-time professional experience performing legal research and analysis, working in a legislative or public policy environment, or closely related work. • Experience working with elected officials at local, state, and federal levels and/or Colorado counties. Nice-to-haves • Demonstrated ability to interpret Colorado statutes and translate them into operational policies and standards. • Prior government affairs experience in Information Technology (IT), Accessibility, Cyber Security, or Broadband. • Juris Doctor (JD) or Master's or doctorate degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, Political Science, Law, Public Health, Environmental Health, or closely related degree. • Ability to research, analyze, and assess regulations and recommend potential actions. • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication, and public speaking skills. • Ability to translate and communicate complex topics in various forums, tailoring communications to fit and influence the bolthires audience.
