We are conveniently located on the West Bank of the Mississippi River near downtown Minneapolis.

The Pre-Admission Nurse provides telephone-based nursing services, information and education to adult and pediatric patients (and/or their families) scheduled for elective surgical procedures prior to their entry to the hospital. The RN assesses, plans and implements a care plan focusing on the individual needs of patients of all ages and cultural backgrounds. The RN collects patient information and coordinates the plan of care with physicians, outside clinics and agencies and internal departments. The RN is responsible for performing these activities in accordance with all policy, procedural and professional practice guidelines.

This position will be working 48 hours every two weeks on the day shift, 8 hour shifts, no weekends. The position is eligible for benefits; https://www.fairview.org/benefits/noncontract

Responsibilities Job Description
• Provides telephone-based care to pediatric and adult patients from culturally diverse populations who are having elective surgeries on the East and West campuses of the U of MN Medical Center and U of MN Masonic Childrens Hospital.
• Assesses patient needs and develops an individualized nursing plan of care
• Provides care in accordance with all relevant policies, procedures and nursing practice guidelines.
• Coordinates nursing care with the care of all other health team members.
• Initiates age and culturally appropriate measures to meet patient needs.
• Initiates patient/family teaching as appropriate to age.
• Collaborates, consults, or makes referrals if unable to perform independently.
• Assures all actions are based on scientific, ethical or ecological principles; proven effectiveness; practice standards; patient/family requests and values; or legal parameters
• Communicates verbal and written information in a clear, concise, accurate, and timely manner.
• Uses communication strategies appropriate to patient/family needs for information, education, and support.
• Communicates effectively with all members of the health care team.
• Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.
• Completes all initial and annual required learning relevant to the role.
• Complies with all relevant laws, regulations, and policies.
• Contributes to a team-oriented work environment.

Qualifications
• BSN desired.
• BLS certification preferred.
• Minimum of five years of clinical nursing experience, preferably in perianesthesia nursing, with proficiency in assessing the physical and psychosocial needs of a culturally diverse patient population. Ability to exercise professional judgment. Excellent communication and documentation skills.
• Computer knowledge and skills required.

This position requires remote work. In addition to adhering to all Fairview policies, guidelines, procedures, the Fairview Commitments, and the Code of Conduct, it is the expectation the following requirements of the remote work policy will be met, including but not limited to:
• Remote workspace that is clean, safe, and professional.
• Maintains an internet connection consistent with Fairview standards at remote workspace.
• Remain productive and responsive during their scheduled work hours.
• Attend primary Fairview location, as needed.
