Job Summary The North American Payroll Specialist is responsible for the accurate, compliant, and timely execution of U.S. and Canadian payrolls. This role requires deep hands-on experience with payroll taxation, statutory and voluntary deductions, retirement plan funding, and audit support. The ideal candidate is a seasoned payroll professional who can operate independently with minimal ramp-up and serve as a trusted subject-matter resource across Payroll, HR, Benefits, and Finance. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Payroll Processing & Statutory Compliance Process end-to-end payroll for U.S. and Canadian employees across multiple states and provinces Apply and maintain compliance with federal, state, provincial, and local payroll tax regulations each pay period Administer and validate statutory and voluntary payroll deductions, including taxes, benefits, garnishments, and retirement contributions Monitor regulatory changes and ensure payroll practices remain compliant Retirement Plans & Benefits Payroll Reconcile, validate, and fund 401(k) and other retirement plan contributions accurately and on schedule Partner with benefits vendors, recordkeepers, and internal teams to research and resolve payroll-related discrepancies Support retirement plan audits, reporting, and year-end reconciliation activities Audits, Tax Filings & Year-End Prepare payroll data and supporting documentation for internal, external, and government audits Assist the Sr. Global Payroll Manager in responding to audit inquiries related to payroll taxes, earnings, and deductions Support year-end processes, including W-2 and T4 preparation, balancing, and reconciliation Payroll Accounting & Controls Validate payroll results against funding requirements and downstream reporting Ensure payroll outputs align with established controls and reconciliation standards Partner with Finance and Payroll leadership to research and resolve variances or discrepancies Collaboration & Process Improvement Serve as a payroll subject-matter expert for HR, Benefits, and Finance partners Identify and implement improvements to payroll processes, controls, and documentation Support payroll system enhancements, vendor coordination, and process changes as needed Qualifications Education Education and experience combination: ☒ Bachelor’s degree is equivalent to three (3) years of experience Specific Area of Study: FPC, CPP, or PCP certification Experience ☒ 2 to 5 years relevant experience Specific Related Experience: Skills 3+ years of hands-on payroll experience supporting U.S. payrolls; Canadian payroll experience required Strong working knowledge of U.S. and Canadian payroll taxation and statutory requirements Experience supporting payroll-related audits and year-end activities Ability to work independently in a deadline-driven environment with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail Multi-state U.S. and multi-province Canadian payroll experience Experience in a multi-entity and/or high-growth organization Familiarity with Dayforce, ADP, Workday, UKG, or similar payroll systems Physical Demands The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. ☒ Sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
