Payroll and Tax Consultant

This role involves providing expertise in payroll and tax processes, acting as a liaison across various departments, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.ResponsibilitiesWork closely with Payroll and Tax consultants on the team to build subject matter expertise in Payroll and taxation/employment regulationsAssist Finance, Treasury, and business areas with payroll production, including funding approval and GL/Expense feedsOffer Payroll/Tax consultation and expertise for internal projects and change ordersDefine and perform SOX test scenarios, audits, manage access and recertification support, and ensure compliance with security controlsCollaborate with external vendors to ensure accuracy, compliance, and seamless operationsHandle SSA verification, 1099s, Multi-State payroll business travel compliance, program/processes, expatriate processing, and revised filings for prior yearsWork in an agile manner to adapt to changing business needs and prioritiesIdentify and implement enhancements to processes to improve automation, quality, and minimize touchpointsProvide training and support to internal teams on payroll and tax-related mattersSkillsBachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related fieldOperations background with strong knowledge of Workday or HR/Payroll systems1-3 years of experience in payroll operations, payroll audits, or tax consultingExcellent analytical and problem-solving skillsEffective communication and interpersonal skillsAbility to work collaboratively with internal teams and external vendorsAbility to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretionEmbodies a continuous improvement and innovative mindsetStrong attention to detail and organizational skillsAbility to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environmentProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially ExcelCertification in payroll (e.g., CPP, FPC) is a plusBenefitsShort-term or annual bonusesLong-term incentivesOn-the-spot recognitionCompany OverviewThe Hartford is an industry leading provider of property and casualty insurance, group benefits and mutual funds.
