Payroll and Benefit Manager
Job Summary:
mPulse is seeking a Payroll & Benefits Manager to lead the administration and execution of payroll and benefits programs across the organization. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate and compliant multi-state payroll processing, managing employee benefits programs, and maintaining adherence to all federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in payroll operations, benefits administration, and HRIS systems, and will partner closely with Finance, People Ops, and external vendors to deliver a seamless employee experience.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Manage end-to-end multi-state payroll processing, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations and wage and hour laws
Administer employee benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and leave programs
Serve as the primary point of contact for payroll and benefits inquiries and issue resolution
Partner with Finance on payroll reconciliations, audits, and reporting
Maintain and optimize payroll and benefits processes within UKG and Dayforce systems
Manage relationships with payroll providers, brokers, and third-party administrators
Lead open enrollment, benefits communication, and employee education initiatives
Maintain accurate records and ensure proper documentation for compliance and audits
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy
Skills/Abilities/Experience:
Strong knowledge of multi-state payroll processing and compliance requirements
Experience with HRIS systems such as UKG and Dayforce
Deep understanding of payroll tax, wage laws, and benefits administration
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
Excellent organizational and time management skills
Strong communication skills with the ability to support employees and stakeholders
Experience managing vendors and cross-functional collaboration
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Finance, Accounting, or related field preferred
5+ years of experience in payroll and benefits administration, including multi-state payroll
Experience ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws
Hands-on experience with UKG, Dayforce, or similar HRIS/payroll systems
Preferred
Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or related certification
Experience in a SaaS or healthcare environment
Experience supporting audits and compliance reporting
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand and sit for extended period of time.
Ability to lift 10 lbs. weight.
