Payment Services Specialist, 18 month term-(Hybrid)

The Payment Services Specialist will manage, reconcile, and investigate transactions while supporting credit unions and external clients, contributing to seamless financial operations in a collaborative environment.ResponsibilitiesTransaction Processing: Handle returned items, electronic bill payments, bill payment remittances, bonds, coupons, ATM/POS transactions, automated funds transfers, cash orders, wire transfers, and other items as assignedFile Verification & Workflow Coordination: Verify receipt of data input files from credit unions, coordinate workflow, and update files using image transport systems and specialized softwareReconciliation & Settlement: Validate online information, balance and reconcile transactions, prepare financial adjustments, and process settlements according to CPA and Network Rules (Interac, Exchange Acculink) within required timeframesWork Hours: Days and hours may vary based on business needs, including occasional testing or training activities, so some flexibility is requiredIssue Investigation & Problem Resolution: Review documents, variance reports, and other information; analyze unusual situations, trace items, and resolve discrepanciesFinancial Documentation & Posting: Prepare documentation and post entries to Central 1’s automated suspense, general ledger, and central banking systemProcess Improvement & Testing: Assist with software upgrades, testing, and process improvement initiativesClient & Stakeholder Support: Respond promptly and courteously to requests from credit unions, financial institutions, corporate clients, vendors, and colleagues, providing assistance in resolving issues and discrepanciesIntermediary Role: Act as a liaison between credit unions, other Centrals, external clients, and financial institutions for processing and settlement of itemsReporting & Record-Keeping: Maintain databases, logs, records, statistics, and prepare summary reports for information, billing, and other purposesRegulatory Compliance: Stay up to date on CPA rules, Network Rules for ATM/POS, FINTRAC reporting, Proceeds of Crime, Anti-Money Laundering regulations, and Central 1 processes and standardsSkillsA Community College diploma in business or a related field, ideally with courses in accountingStrong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationshipsComfortable analyzing data, interpreting reports, and resolving issues using ExcelExcellent analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time management skillsAccurate and efficient data entry skills with attention to detailAble to multitask, manage conflicting priorities, meet deadlines, and thrive in a collaborative team environmentExperience in retail banking or working in a secure data centerFamiliarity with automated financial systems, clearing and settlement processes, and CPA rulesBenefitsWork-life flexibilityHybrid work environmentVariable annual incentive planGenerous annual vacation allotmentTop-notch flexible benefits plan including family building and gender affirmationRetirement Plan, matched contributions at 6%Access to a learning platform and educational assistance supportAccess to a virtual wellness platformCareer development opportunitiesWellness Flex Fund to support personal interest and activitiesDay off to volunteer in your community and other paid time off optionsCorporate discounts subject to employment agreementCompany OverviewCentral 1 cooperatively empowers credit unions and other financial institutions who deliver banking choice to Canadians.
