The Patient Care Manager at Stanford Health Care plays a crucial role in overseeing the delivery of high-quality patient care for individuals with complex gastrointestinal cancers, including colon, liver, pancreatic, gallbladder, and stomach cancers. This position requires collaboration with GI oncology physicians and advanced practice leaders to support program development and ensure that patient care is delivered effectively. The Patient Care Manager leads a clinical care team consisting of nurses, medical assistants, and administrative staff, working closely with an Assistant Clinical Operations Manager to manage daily operations and clinical workflows. This dynamic team is involved in both medical oncology and surgical services, focusing on quality initiatives and clinical research growth, which provides ample opportunities for leadership development and career advancement. As a Registered Nurse, the Patient Care Manager is responsible for unit leadership and collaborates with nursing staff, healthcare teams, and hospital leaders to create a quality practice environment that supports professional nursing and patient care. The role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including the coordination of patient care, supervision of nursing and support staff, administrative and budget management, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring compliance with accreditation and regulatory standards. The Patient Care Manager is also accountable for quality assurance and improvement, safety and risk management, and the implementation of hospital and unit policies, goals, and objectives. This position is critical to the operations of the hospital and requires a proactive approach to enhancing communication, feedback, and staff education. The Patient Care Manager is expected to ensure the effective delivery of competent, compassionate, and efficient patient care by planning, organizing, and directing nursing services. This includes assessing patients, implementing treatment plans, administering medications, and monitoring patient care processes and outcomes. The role also involves effective communication with team members and interdisciplinary colleagues to enhance problem-solving and performance improvement. Additionally, the Patient Care Manager is responsible for fiscal accountability, including budget planning and monitoring productivity, as well as human resources management, which includes hiring, training, and evaluating staff. Leadership responsibilities include providing direction for departmental activities, supporting staff development, and ensuring quality management practices are upheld.

Responsibilities
• Ensure effective delivery of competent, compassionate, and efficient patient care by planning, organizing, and directing nursing services.

• Coordinate nursing activities with other services or disciplines to enhance patient care processes.

• Communicate effectively to manage conflicts and engage employees in unit activities.

• Plan and forecast department budget, monitor productivity, and perform variance analysis.

• Direct personnel management consistent with labor laws and hospital policies, including hiring and training staff.

• Assume 24-hour responsibility for the operation of assigned patient care units.

• Develop and implement process improvement projects to enhance patient care.

• Facilitate professional development and clinical growth of nursing staff.

• Support quality management practices and create a safe patient care environment.

Requirements
• Bachelor's and/or Master's in Nursing from an accredited college or university.

• Three (3) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience.

• California Registered Nurse (RN) license.

• Ability to contribute to health care policy formulation in partnership with a multidisciplinary team.

• Ability to delegate responsibilities according to ability and regulatory guidelines.

• Ability to develop programs and lead process improvement projects.

• Knowledge of current theories, principles, practices, and standards in nursing and healthcare.
