Patent Agent Electrical Engineering & Software
A law firm seeks a Patent Agent with a strong background in electrical engineering, software, or computer science to join its Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group, located in Washington, DC. This role involves managing patent prosecution for cutting-edge technologies, particularly in the fields of electrical engineering and software. The ideal candidate will have expertise in patent application drafting and prosecution, along with a solid understanding of networking technologies and wireless communications. Duties: ? Draft and file patent applications related to electrical engineering and software technologies ? Collaborate with clients, engineers, and legal teams to strategize and develop patent portfolios ? Perform patentability assessments and assist in developing IP strategies ? Handle responses to office actions and correspondence with the USPTO ? Support the team with litigation matters when necessary ? Stay current on advancements in technology and patent law Requirements: ? 2-6 years of experience in patent prosecution, particularly in electrical engineering or software fields ? Experience in design engineering, especially in chip manufacturing, is an asset ? Knowledge of networking, software, and wireless network technologies (3G/4G/5G) is preferred ? Admittance to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) ? Excellent written and verbal communication skills ? Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities ? Ability to work efficiently both independently and in a collaborative team setting Education: ? A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field Certifications: ? Must be a registered member of the USPTO Skills: ? Proficient in patent prosecution processes and intellectual property law ? Expertise in electrical engineering and software technologies ? Strong technical writing and drafting skills ? Ability to analyze complex technical concepts and translate them into clear legal language ? Detail-oriented with excellent time-management skills ?
