About the position The Student Advocate for the Inspiring Start Program at Monroe Community College serves as a case manager for students enrolled in the Strong Foundations and Pathways to MCC programs. This part-time role focuses on providing academic coaching, advisement, and support to help students succeed, particularly those at high risk of dropping out. The advocate will assist with onboarding new students, track their progress, and connect them with necessary resources to ensure their academic and personal development. Responsibilities Assist in recruitment and orientation events for new students. , Conduct intake of applicants and assist students through the placement and registration processes. , Track student progress towards goal achievement and maintain a caseload of students. , Provide case management support and coaching to students. , Refer students to community resources and connect them to on-campus resources. , Advise students on academic and non-cognitive needs, conducting and coordinating workshops as necessary. , Communicate with faculty to coordinate interventions for academics, behaviors, and attendance. , Report on the persistence, retention, and completion objectives of students in the programs. , Meet weekly with faculty to discuss student progress. Requirements Earned Bachelor's in social work, psychology/counseling, education or a related field. , Experience advising or counseling underrepresented students. , Competence with administrative software including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint. , Adept at learning new technologies. , Experience in a higher education institution. Nice-to-haves Master of Social Work, licensed counselor. , Two years advising or counseling underprepared students. , Understanding of trauma-informed practices. , Demonstrated knowledge/proficiency with SIS, LMS early intervention and/or degree audit systems. , Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently.
