Job Description

Job Title: Part-Time Research Director

Reports To: Executive Director or Policy Director (depending on organizational structure)

Employment Type: Part-Time, approximately 10 hours per week

Location: Fully remote

Compensation: Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience

Overview:

The Part-Time Research Director will play a key role in supporting our 501(c)(4) organization’s efforts to influence communications and policy initiatives. This position focuses on conducting foundational research and preparing grant applications to secure funding for communications and policy-related projects. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, self-motivated, and skilled in both research and grant writing.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Research (50% of time):
• Conduct basic research into communications strategies, messaging effectiveness, and policy trends relevant to the organization’s mission.
• Analyze existing studies, reports, and data from credible sources to inform organizational strategies.
• Summarize findings in concise, actionable reports for internal use.

2. Grant Writing (40% of time):
• Identify grant opportunities from foundations, government agencies, and other funding sources that align with communications and policy research goals.
• Draft compelling grant proposals, including budgets, timelines, and research objectives, to secure funding for ongoing and future projects.
• Collaborate with leadership to ensure proposals reflect organizational priorities.

3. Administrative Support (10% of time):
• Maintain organized records of research materials and grant submissions.
• Track application deadlines and follow up with funders as needed.

Qualifications:
• Required: Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Communications, Public Policy, Political Science, or a similar discipline).
• Required: Proven ability to conduct research and synthesize findings (demonstrated through academic, volunteer, or professional experience).
• Preferred: Experience writing grant applications or working with nonprofit organizations.
• Skills: Strong written and verbal communication, analytical thinking, proficiency with remote collaboration tools (e.g., Zoom, Google Workspace), and basic knowledge of nonprofit funding landscapes.
• Availability: Able to commit to approximately 10 hours per week, with flexibility to adjust schedule as project needs evolve.

Work Environment:

This is a fully remote position. Candidates must have reliable internet access and a suitable home workspace. All work will be conducted virtually, with regular check-ins via email or video conferencing.
