Position: Part-Time Mental Health Counselor SW/C II (Remote).

Position Summary

Part‑time after‑hours weekend position, primarily remote, may require occasional in‑person attendance. Provide tele‑health mental health crisis services to inmates statewide and give consultation and guidance to correctional staff and administrators regarding mental health needs of special populations.

Description of the Job

This position provides after‑hours mental health crisis services to inmates via tele‑health system statewide, and provides consultation and guidance to correctional staff and administrators regarding mental health needs, including developmental disabilities, mental illness, and other special needs populations.
Responsibilities
• Deliver tele‑health, after‑hour mental health services at an advanced practice level to a special population of inmates with mental illness
• Collaborate with other staff regarding mental health needs of inmates after normal business hours
• Ensure accurate information system mental health needs levels, including psychiatric and developmental disability needs level codes
• Manage both emergency and non‑emergency transfer for inmates experiencing acute mental health needs
• Provide clinical direction to non‑clinical staff in mental health care and treatment of inmates
• Ensure continuity of care for inmates by making appropriate referrals and providing necessary documentation for receiving units, facilities, or agencies
• Document electronically in an accurate and timely manner to provide comprehensive inmate mental health records
• Monitor inmate treatment, listen to inmate concerns, and provide counseling and direction
Minimum Qualifications
• Master’s degree in counseling, social work, psychology, or marriage and family therapy from an accredited institution; transcripts required
• Valid Colorado or State licensure under the Social Work Licensure Compact:
Licensed Social Worker (LSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor Candidate (LPCC), or Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist Candidate (LMFTC); current enrollment in a master’s program for Social Work (or LMFTC) required
• Applicants must be legally eligible to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
• Graduation with a master’s or doctoral degree in a mental health field from a program accredited by CACREP, CSWE, AAMFT/COAMFTE, or APA
• License eligible as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or Licensed Psychologist
• Experience providing mental health treatment in a correctional environment
Required Competencies
• Professional mental health treatment of inmates
• Efficiency and ability to work independently
• Participation in 24‑hour mental health on‑call rotation
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Effective collaboration across facility programs and external agencies
• Professional clinical documentation proficiency
• Maintenance of required registration/permit/licensure as applicable
• Ability to work with a diverse inmate population
• Ability to communicate fluently in English both verbally and in writing; ability to read and comprehend English
• Ability to create accessible documents and technical content following plain language guidelines with accessibility in mind
