Part-Time Custodian

The Custodian is responsible for cleaning the building interiors of the secure detention area at Smith County Juvenile Services.
• Cleans building interiors including stairways and elevators using a variety of heavy equipment.
• Sweeps, mops, disinfects, cleans and replaces paper goods in restrooms, empties trash cans and maintains inventory of cleaning supplies.
• Strips, waxes and buffs floors.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently.
• Must be able to follow written and verbal instructions and comply with detailed label precautions.
• Must have dependable transportation.
• Must be insurable by the county insurance carrier.
• Must be able to work varied hours and have a flexible schedule.
• Must use professional courtesy, discretion and sound judgment when engaging in any contact with co-workers, customers, vendors, visitors and/or other Smith County employees.
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality of business knowledge and employee information.
• Must be able to maintain professional relations while engaging in job-related tasks.
• Must be able to cooperate with others to resolve conflict and achieve goals.
• Must be able to maintain a pleasant attitude while leaving personal business outside of the workplace.
• High School diploma or G.E.D.
• Experience with operating a floor buffer to strip and wax floors preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

Must have a valid Texas Driver License.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
• Must be able to ascend and descend stairs, lift, push and pull 50 pounds.
• Must be able to safely and properly operate a floor buffer to vacuum, sweep, mop, buff and wax floors.
