Overview

Welling Young has partnered with a rapidly growing fast-paced, internal claims organization. This client manages multiple claims programs, and they are seeking a highly skilled Construction Litigation Paralegal.

The Construction Litigation Paralegal will handle pre-suit matters (Chapter 558 claims) and provide essential support to attorneys handling complex construction defect litigation matters. The role involves intake and handling of Chapter 558 notices and calendaring of all crucial deadlines from inception to resolution with attorney supervision. The drafting of discovery responses and document review of client files. The intake and summarization of incoming discovery responses containing extensive documents. The staff counsel office’s exclusive function is to provide high-quality and effective legal services on behalf of businesses insured by the insurance company clients.

Responsibilities
• Case management and investigation of pre-suit matters. (Chapter 558 claims)
• Collect, organize and manage extensive project documentation, including contacts, blueprints and reports.
• Conduct Client interviews identifying their scope of work on the project(s).
• Handle investigations to gather facts and identify the root cause of the defect with attorney supervision.
• Coordinate with building experts on inspections and scope of work.
• Draft pleadings, motions, discovery requests and other documents under attorney supervision.
• Manage responses to discovery requests and handle document production.
• Organize and create timelines for the construction process from inception to completion based on document review.
• Assist attorneys in preparing for hearings, depositions, conferences and for all aspects of a trial.
• Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, vendors, and colleagues.

Requirements
• At least 2-3 years of experience in insurance defense litigation. Experienced paralegals are encouraged to apply.
• Construction defect experience a plus.
• Thorough knowledge of legal terminology, the court rules, litigation procedures and the Florida E-Filing Portal.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a professional environment.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
