Outpatient Coder
Overview Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, coding conventions (ICD 10 - CM/PC, CPT, and HCPCS), and CMS coding requirements Computer proficiency, ability to research coding questions and utilize educational resources required Licensure/Certification/Registration: One of the following: Credentialed through American Health Information Management Association in one of the following: • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) • Certified Coding Associate (CCA) OR Credentialed through American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) in one of the following: • Certified Outpatient Coder (COC, COC-A) • Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC) Certified Professional Coder (CPC, CPC-A) Desired Qualifications: Associate degree 1 year coding experience in an acute care facility Responsibilities Assigns and sequences code for complex outpatient accounts according to established regulatory guidelines, industry best practices, and IH policies and procedures.
