Office of Compliance and Legal Affairs Student Worker

The Student Worker for Compliance and Legal Affairs will support the Executive Director in ensuring Maryville University's adherence to legal, regulatory, and policy requirements. This role offers hands-on experience in compliance, risk management, and legal operations within a higher education setting. The assistant will contribute to policy research, compliance monitoring, communication, training development, and administrative support, gaining exposure to the practical application of law and ethics in a university environment.

Key Responsibilities:
• Policy & Research Support: Assist in reviewing and updating university policies and procedures. Conduct legal and regulatory research on higher education compliance topics.
• Compliance Monitoring: Help track and document compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., licensure, accreditation, etc.).
• Training & Communication: Support the development, communication, and delivery of compliance training materials for faculty, staff, and students.
• Risk Management Assistance: Assist with the coordination and development of the ERM system.
• Administrative Support: Prepare reports, maintain compliance documentation, and assist with scheduling and meeting logistics.
• Collaboration: Connect with campus partners as directed; attend relevant meetings and take minutes.
• Special Projects: Assist with the implementation of new regulations and coordinate special initiatives, such as organizing Compliance and Ethics Week and preparing the annual licensure compliance report, and launching the office's SharePoint site. Provide project-based research and support for the Finance offices as a whole, as time permits.

Qualifications:
• Work-Study Eligibility: Eligible for either Federal or Institutional Work-Study.
• Education: Current full-time undergraduate (junior/senior) in Pre-law, education, political sciences, business, or a related field.
• Skills:
• Strong written and verbal communication.
• Attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
• Interest in compliance, legal affairs, or higher education administration.

Preferred:
• Coursework or experience in legal studies, compliance, or risk management.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office and/or legal research tools.

Learning Outcomes:
• Gain practical experience in compliance and legal affairs within higher education.
• Develop research, policy analysis, and project management skills.
• Understand the intersection of law, ethics, and university operations.

Work Schedule & Compensation:
• 10–20 hours per week during the academic year (flexible around class schedule).
• Hourly rate: $15.25 effective 1/1/2026
