Position Overview

The MRI Technologist Consultant will lead the creation, implementation, and optimization of a mobile MRI imaging program. This role requires a blend of clinical expertise, operational planning, regulatory knowledge, and project leadership. The consultant will guide the organization through every phase of development—from concept and equipment selection to workflow design, staffing, safety, and program launch.
Key Responsibilities
Mobile Program Strategy & Planning
• Conduct needs assessments to determine service areas, patient volume, and operational feasibility.
• Develop a comprehensive mobile MRI program plan, including route scheduling, site selection, staffing models, and service delivery strategy.
• Advise on mobile unit specifications, power requirements, site access, and environmental considerations.
Equipment & Mobile Unit Development
• Recommend mobile MRI vendors, scanner models, coils, and support equipment based on clinical and operational needs.
• Support procurement, build‑out, installation, and acceptance testing of the mobile MRI unit.
• Establish and optimize imaging protocols tailored for mobile environments.
Safety, Compliance & Accreditation
• Develop MRI safety policies specific to mobile operations, including patient screening, magnet safety zones, and emergency procedures.
• Ensure compliance with ACR, Joint Commission, state regulations, and mobile imaging licensing requirements.
• Create documentation and processes needed for accreditation and regulatory inspections.
Operational Workflow & Logistics
• Design workflows for patient scheduling, registration, preparation, scanning, and image transfer.
• Establish procedures for transporting the mobile unit, securing sites, and managing daily setup/teardown.
• Implement processes for contrast management, supply inventory, and equipment maintenance.
Technology Integration
• Coordinate PACS/RIS integration, secure image transfer, and connectivity solutions for mobile environments.
• Develop downtime procedures and contingency plans for connectivity or power issues.
Training & Staff Development
• Train technologists and support staff on mobile MRI operations, safety, and equipment use.
• Provide education for referring providers, schedulers, and clinical teams on mobile MRI workflows.
• Develop competency checklists and ongoing training plans.
Quality Assurance & Performance Optimization
• Establish quality control procedures, image quality standards, and performance metrics.
• Monitor throughput, image quality, safety events, and patient satisfaction.
• Recommend improvements to enhance efficiency, reliability, and patient experience.
Collaboration & Leadership
• Work closely with radiologists, administrators, and mobile imaging vendors to ensure program success.
• Serve as the subject‑matter expert during planning meetings, site evaluations, and program launch.
• Provide ongoing consultation during early operational phases to ensure stability and growth.
Qualifications
• ARRT (MR) certification required; advanced MRI training preferred.
• Minimum 5–7 years of MRI experience, including mobile MRI or multi‑site operations.
• Experience in program development, consulting, or imaging leadership strongly preferred.
• Strong understanding of MRI physics, safety, mobile imaging regulations, and workflow design.
• Excellent communication, project management, and problem‑solving skills.
