Join the Team Description About the Project: We’re deep into development on Mortal Shell II, the next chapter in our acclaimed action-RPG franchise. As we move toward the next phase of production, we’re refining key narrative and cinematic elements that set the tone for the experience. We’re looking to bring on a freelance Motion Designer / After Effects Artist to help elevate 2D animatic sequences, enhancing their pacing, motion, and visual impact. This work will support the game’s storytelling and atmosphere, helping transform existing animatics into polished, dynamic sequences that better communicate tone, emotion, and narrative intent. About the Role: In this role, you’ll work closely with the art and narrative teams using existing draft animatics and 2D artwork. Your focus will be on improving the overall edit, animating layered 2D assets, and adding a thoughtful VFX pass in After Effects to enhance clarity, mood, and storytelling. The ideal candidate has strong editorial instincts, a great sense of timing, and knows how to use motion and VFX to elevate still artwork into something that feels alive and intentional. What You’ll Do: • Collaborate with the art and cinematic/narrative teams to refine 2D animatic intro sequences, defining pacing, tone, and visual flow. • Build upon existing draft animatics and 2D artwork to create more dynamic, readable, and emotionally impactful sequences. • Animate layered 2D assets to add depth, motion, and visual clarity. • Apply a thoughtful VFX and motion design pass in After Effects to enhance storytelling elements, mood, and transitions. • Improve overall timing, edit, and visual cohesion to elevate the final presentation. • Deliver clean rendered sequences that are ready to be integrated into Unreal Engine projects and suitable for iteration and future use. We’re Looking for Someone Who: • Has strong motion design and 2D animation skills, with professional experience in After Effects. • Has a strong affinity for dark fantasy, or a broader fantasy / mythical / mysterious visual sensibility, and can reflect that tone through motion and effects. • Is comfortable working from animatics, storyboards, or rough editorial passes. • Understands how motion, pacing, and VFX support narrative storytelling, not just visual polish. • Has a keen eye for timing, composition, and visual hierarchy. • Can work efficiently on a tight timeline and iterate quickly based on feedback. • Enjoys collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and incorporating creative direction.
