Job Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and energetic Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for accurately coding medical procedures and diagnoses, managing billing processes, and ensuring timely reimbursement from insurance providers. Your expertise will help streamline revenue cycle management, improve patient record accuracy, and support the overall efficiency of our healthcare operations. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to quality patient care through precise documentation and billing practices. Robust experience in eClinicalWorks (eCW). Experience in infectious disease is plus.

Duties
• Review and interpret medical records to assign appropriate ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), and DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) codes for diagnoses and procedures
• Prepare and submit accurate claims using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems
• Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through medical collection processes to maximize revenue recovery
• Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, coding guidelines, and insurance requirements
• Maintain detailed medical records, including documentation of coding decisions and billing activities
• Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation or resolve billing discrepancies
• Stay updated on changes in medical terminology, coding standards, and insurance policies to ensure ongoing accuracy

Skills
• Proficiency in medical billing, coding, and collections processes with a strong understanding of ICD-9, ICD-10, CPT coding systems, and DRG classifications
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology to accurately interpret clinical documentation
• Experience working with EMR systems and EHR platforms for claim submission and record management
• Ability to navigate insurance requirements and perform effective follow-ups on unpaid claims
• Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational skills for managing multiple tasks simultaneously
• Effective communication skills for collaborating with healthcare providers and insurance representatives
• Familiarity with medical records management standards and compliance regulations

Experience:
• Preferred 3-4 years’ experience in a medical office reimbursement department
• Experience with EMR Management software - eClinicalWorks
• Experience submitting claims to U.S. insurance providers (Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payers).
• Experience with medical billing software or Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems. Current client is using eCW.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in claim preparation and documentation.
• Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
• Strong background in Accounts Receivable
• Strong communication skills as you will be speaking with physician’s, patients, insurance representatives, and/or medical billing staff on a weekly basis
• Must maintain HIPAA standards
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while remaining calm and professional
• Strong customer service orientation
