We are growing and seeking a seasoned Managing Attorney to lead attorney teams, optimize legal operations, and elevate firm-wide performance. Position Summary The Managing Attorney will oversee a team of attorneys and legal professionals to ensure high-quality case handling, strategic decision-making, and efficient operations within the firm’s litigation or pre-litigation departments. This leader will mentor attorneys, drive continuous improvement initiatives, monitor case pipelines, and uphold firm standards while fostering a positive, accountable, and solution-focused culture. This role may be performed fully remote or hybrid, with periodic in-office presence required for leadership meetings, training, and team collaboration. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Management Provide daily guidance, coaching, and mentorship to attorneys and legal staff. Conduct regular performance evaluations, set goals, and support professional development. Ensure accountability for case progress, file quality, and client communication standards. Lead team meetings, case reviews, and training sessions to reinforce best practices. Case Strategy & Oversight Oversee complex or high-value cases and assist attorneys with strategic decision-making. Review and approve key case actions, including settlement recommendations, litigation strategies, and major case milestones. Monitor case pipelines and ensure timely resolution aligned with firm goals. Operational Excellence Collaborate with firm leadership to develop, refine, and implement processes that increase efficiency and quality of case handling. Track team performance metrics, identify bottlenecks, and drive data-informed improvements. Support compliance with legal, ethical, and firm-specific standards. Client Service & Firm Representation Uphold the firm’s reputation for exceptional client experience. Address escalated client concerns with professionalism and empathy. Represent the firm in court, mediations, hearings, or public-facing engagements as needed. Cross Functional Collaboration Work closely with intake, investigations, litigation support, HR, and executive leadership to align goals and improve workflows. Provide insight and leadership on firm-wide initiatives, technology adoption, and culture-building efforts. Qualifications Required Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school. Active and good-standing license to practice law in Michigan (or ability to obtain quickly). 10+ years of experience in personal injury, civil litigation, or a similar legal field. 5+ years of leadership or management experience within a law firm or legal department. Proven success managing attorneys and high-volume legal cases. Strong communication, conflict resolution, and organizational skills. High emotional intelligence and ability to lead through influence and accountability. Preferred Experience in a large personal injury firm or masstort environment. Demonstrated ability to analyze operational data to drive performance. Familiarity with legal case management software. Work Environment & Schedule Remote or Hybrid: Attorneys may work remotely with occasional visits to the Southfield office for leadership meetings, training, and firm events.
