Manager, Engineering - Data and AI Architecture
Job Summary:
We are seeking an exceptional Manager, Engineering - Data and AI Architecture to lead the design, build, test, and maintenance of large-scale data pipelines and AI architectures at FedEx. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for leading a team of data architects, data scientists, and engineers to drive business results through data-driven solutions. You will work closely with executive leadership, business architects, and stakeholders to ensure that data and AI initiatives align with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Architectural Design:
Design and implement optimal data and AI architectures using open-source and commercial tools.
Lead the modernization of platform, data, and application data architectures, transitioning legacy systems to cloud-native solutions.
Ensure security, reliability, and maintainability of data and AI infrastructure.
Translate complex technical concepts into actionable insights for senior leadership.
Team Management:
Lead and mentor a team of data architects, data scientists, and engineers.
Foster a culture of innovation and collaboration within the data and AI team.
Lead cross-functional teams in creating reusable data and AI services.
Technology Partnerships:
Evaluate and select data and AI technologies and platforms.
Manage relationships with technology partners and vendors.
Collaborate with business stakeholders to ensure data-driven solutions align with business priorities.
Data Governance:
Develop and implement data governance policies and procedures.
Prioritize ethical AI implementation, safeguarding against security threats, and ensuring transparency and accountability.
Champion best practices for data security, governance, and compliance.
Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a quantitative discipline such as Mathematics or Engineering.
Experience:
Seven (7) years equivalent work experience in measurement and analysis, quantitative business problem solving, simulation development, and/or predictive analytics.
Extensive knowledge in data engineering and machine learning frameworks.
Strong understanding of the transportation industry, competitors, and evolving technologies.
Skills:
Expertise in Azure services, Databricks, relational databases, document stores, key value stores, streaming and messaging systems, Lakehouse architecture, data warehouses, ETL pipelines, and AI/ML frameworks.
Strong experience with Azure cloud-based data architectures.
Proven experience modernizing legacy data systems.
Deep knowledge of integrating AI models into existing data infrastructures.
Expertise in data governance, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
