Job description: The IEP Coordinator supports school-based special education teams in activities related to the development of high-quality Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), facilitation of PPTs, and preparation
of IEP documents for finalization, and ensuring that IEPs meet the statutory compliance requirements of IDEA, State regulations, and BOE policies governing the provision of special education services.
The position assists special education and related services staff in the development of IEPs with measurable goals and objectives, effective accommodations and modifications, and appropriate service
recommendations, in order to increase student achievement and promote consistency of program implementation within the least restrictive environment (LRE) for each student.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
AREA 1: Facilitate Planning and Placement Meetings for ER9 Schools
Serve as PPT Chair for meetings as assigned
Regularly monitor PowerSchool and CT-SEDS reports to support scheduling PPT meetings in compliance with all required procedures and timelines
Review student records (including pending transfer students) for documentation of parental consent for special education services, eligibility checklists, and other documentation required by local, state, and federal requirements. Prepare records to transfer to the next location.
Support SEDAC, Evaluation Timeline, and other state & federal reporting requirements
Provide ongoing support to each districts Special Services Department in printing and mailing of documents (e.g. PPT notices, draft and finalized IEPs, evaluation reports, teacher reports, progress reports), and coordinating with the departments on entering and exiting students in PowerSchool and CT-SEDS
AREA 2: Enter data into CT-SEDs to assist in IEP finalization
Serve as a school-based resource to support teams preparing IEPs and related documentation in CT-SEDS
Ensure that each IEP (and related documentation) satisfies legal requirements and district procedures
Work directly with special education administrators to confirm documents are ready for finalization
Develop professional learning activities related to the CT-SEDS software and district procedures
Support implementation of uniform practices in the use of CT-SEDS (e.g. recording information in appropriate modules/tiles/sections, responsibility for entering information into the various modules/tiles/sections)
AREA 3: Assist teams in the development of high-quality IEPs
Serve as a resource to teachers for the development of high-quality IEPs and information regarding special education policies and procedures
Support development of professional learning opportunities for special education staff; deliver training as assigned
Support implementation of uniform practices for IEP development across the district
Related duties as assigned
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor or Masters Degree in Special Education or Related Services Areas
Certification in one or more of the following areas:
Comprehensive Special Education, K12 (165), PK-12 (065)
Speech and Language Pathologist (061)
School Psychologist (070)
School Social Worker (071)
3-5 years teaching experience
Exemplary ability to write IEPs
Extensive knowledge of special education law
Strong communication skills
Superior organizational skills
Organized and ability to meet deadlines
Knowledge of School Based Healthcare (Medicaid) responsibilities.
CT-SEDS
WORK YEAR/BENEFITS/SALARY
186 contractual days per school year with possibility of some extra summer days
Time will be split between the ER9 five schools
Meetings will be held in person or virtually as needed
Salary will be based on on collective bargaining agreements of the three ER9 teacher unions (.40 FTE Easton; .40 FTE Redding and .20 FTE Region 9)
