Dayton School District is a rural district located in western Oregon's scenic Mid-Willamette Valley, between McMinnville and Newberg. The staff works with parents and other community members to provide a learning environment which leads to progress and success in all academic areas and encourages students to become well-rounded citizens. The student population of approximately 1,000 is served by a grade school, a grades 6 - 8 junior high, and a high school. The school district draws people into the community who want a strong educational system with a rural sense of caring and teamwork.

Primary Function
The Director of Teaching and Learning shall have leadership responsibility for organizing, coordinating, implementing and evaluating the total curriculum and instructional program, kindergarten through grade twelve. Particular emphasis shall be on the articulation of the program between the elementary schools and the secondary schools.

Areas of Delegated Authority and Responsibility:
The Director of Teaching and Learning shall be responsible for the cooperative working relationship among building principals, department heads and such instructional and curriculum committees as are necessary to establish a well coordinated program of education from kindergarten through grade twelve.

In addition to the above, the Director of Teaching and Learning should exercise specific leadership in the following designated areas:
? Initiate kindergarten through grade twelve leadership for curriculum planning, development and implementation.
? Administer, coordinate and supervise the instructional program in all schools, by cooperatively working with the principal and faculty of each building.
? Build and sustain programs that serve a well-rounded education, including Career Technical Education, Family engagement, and College Readiness initiatives.
? Oversee federal and state programs including TAG, 504, SpEd, and EL Services.
? Assist in the development of the annual budget by preparing cooperatively with the principals and faculty the curriculum and instruction portion of the budget.
? Approve the selection of instructional materials and textbooks through proper channels as a cooperative committee procedure at all levels.
? Keep the curriculum and instruction programs up to date with particular emphasis on evaluating new developments in instruction. Develop and initiate evaluation procedures for all programs.
? Develop, by working cooperatively with appropriate committees, curriculum guides and instructional brochures for the district.
? Supervise and coordinate a program of orientation for new teachers and in-service training for experienced teachers.
? Keep abreast of all new instructional materials and evaluate these materials in terms of their effectiveness as teaching aids in the educational program.
? Direct the use and distribution of instructional equipment and materials for the total district.
? Lead and/or organize professional development and provide ongoing feedback to staff regarding their implementation.
? Prepare and submit reports to the Superintendent and the School Board relating to the progress and accomplishments in curriculum and instruction development programs.
? Develop and oversee systems of assessment and intervention.
? Direct the Summer School Program.
? Attend Board meetings and other meetings as requested by the Superintendent.
? Perform all other acts reasonable and necessary to accomplish this primary function.

Staff Relationship:
The following personnel shall be directly responsible to the director of Teaching and Learning: All instructional TOSAs, Consultants, Specialists, and Coordinators.

Requirements:
? Current Oregon administrative license or eligibility for license.
? Master's Degree in education.
? Minimum five (5) years successful teaching experience, preferably at the secondary level.
? Successful experience in K-12 administration.
? Experience working with culturally diverse families and communities.
? Successful experience overseeing and strengthening sports programs.
? Strong interpersonal skills; maintains confidentiality; remains calm and open to others in tense or difficult situations.
? Strong presentation skills and ability to respond effectively to questions in one-on-one, small, and large group situations.
