Job description: SUMMARY OF POSITION
City of Apple Valley is accepting applications for Apple Valley Liquor Stores 1, 2 & 3 as they become available.
Responsible for providing excellent customer service. Responsible for following all policies, procedures, laws and regulations related to the sale of alcohol and tobacco. Duties include but are not limited to: operating computerized point of sales system, stocking liquor store coolers and shelves; lifting and carrying beer and cases of merchandise; general cleaning of store and interacting in a professional courteous and helpful manner with customers. This position reports to the Liquor Store Manager and may take day-to-day direction from the on-duty Assistant Store Manager.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Check identification to determine eligibility to purchase liquor.
• Waits on customers: finding items on shelves, recommending and selling merchandise to customers, and carrying merchandise to cars.
• Operate POS system, receive payments and gives change.
• Stocks, arranges and rotates liquor merchandise on shelves, stocks beer coolers and sets up displays. Stocking shelves involves carrying cases of beer, liquor and wine and counting inventory.
• Performs general cleaning maintenance at the store, including but not limited to: setting up and dismantling displays; dusting shelves, displays, etc,; vacuuming and sweeping floors; removing snow from walkways; removing trash from store; cleaning store and cooler windows; washing shelves and bottles; and cleaning restrooms.
• Performs such other duties as are consistent with the tasks of the position and as may be assigned by the City.
QUALIFICATIONS
• High School graduate or equivalent.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Basic knowledge of retail sales and money handling.
• Strong mathematical aptitude and ability to work with numbers.
• Ability to meet and deal with the public on a regular basis.
• Demonstrated excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated excellent communication skills.
• Physical strength to frequently lift cases of merchandise weight up to 50 pounds. Able to stand or walk for long periods. Requires frequent bending, twisting and stooping.
• Must pass background check.
PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
Liquor Sales Clerk experience.
Experience checking and verifying identification.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
BENEFITS: Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) pension enrollment for those who qualify.
Reports to: Liquor Store Manager. May take day to day direction from the on duty Assistant Store Manager and/or Liquor Store Supervisor.
Schedule: 10 - 27 hours a week.
Day hours: 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m./5:00 p.m.
Evening hours: 4:00 p.m./5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m.
Sunday hours: 11:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Monday - Friday, rotating Saturday's and Sunday's.
Weekend and Holiday work is required.
Employment offer will be contingent upon criminal and driving history check.
Expected salary: $15.5 per hour
