Legal Intern
As You Sow is seeking motivated and detail-oriented law students to support our work advancing environmental and social corporate responsibility through shareholder representation and litigation.
About As You SowAs You Sow is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting environmental and social corporate responsibility through shareholder representation, coalition building, and innovative legal strategies. Our work focuses on key program areas including climate and energy, circular economy (waste and plastics), environmental health (toxics and agriculture), biodiversity, and social justice, including racial equity and workplace practices
Position OverviewLegal interns will conduct research, analysis, and writing on a range of issues at the intersection of corporate governance, shareholder rights, and sustainability. Interns will support ongoing initiatives across As You Sow’s program areas and contribute to the development of shareholder proposals and legal strategies.
Responsibilities
Conduct legal research and analysis related to:
Corporate governance and shareholder rights
Fiduciary duties and responsible investment practices
Retirement plans and institutional investment
The intersection of insurance and climate change
Issues across As You Sow’s program areas
Draft memoranda, reports, and supporting materials for shareholder representation efforts
Assist in the development of shareholder proposals and related legal arguments
Track regulatory and legislative developments relevant to corporate responsibility
Assist in litigation strategy and case development
Qualifications
Current law student (1L, 2L, or 3L)
Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills
Interest in corporate governance, securities law, environmental law, or related fields
Demonstrated commitment to environmental and social issues preferred
Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments
Internship Details
Term: Fall, Spring, or Summer
Hours: Part-Time, could be Full-Time
Location: Fully remote
Compensation: Interns must receive either academic credit or a stipend of $500 per semester
