Lecturer Part-Time | Applied Animal Behavior Certificate Program, Department of Psychology

The Certificate in Applied Animal Behavior program in the Department of Psychology at the University of Washington invites applications for a 75%-time Part-Time Lecturer (not tenure eligible) to function as the Director for the program. The candidate will have the opportunity to continue to develop the efforts of this innovative Certificate program, and teach a three courses (3 credits per quarter) in Animal Behavior, Applied Animal Behavior in Theory and Applied Animal Behavior in Practice. Instructional roles related to this program include:
• Teaching three courses per year
• Enhancing the educational experience of students from diverse backgrounds
• Implementing and expanding the program’s strategic goals, such as through curriculum development, recruitment and outreach efforts, student mentorship programs, etc.
• Providing expertise and guidance to support successful program expansion and sustainability over time

This position has an anticipated start date of July 1, 2026, to allow for orientation and preparation for the Autumn 2026 quarter. Subsequently, the position will have a 9-month service period, 9/16-6/15 each year. The position will have a 3-year term, renewable, for additional multi-year periods if there is satisfactory performance.

The base salary range for this position will be $7,500 - $9,000 per month at 100% FTE, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Qualifications

Applicants should have a Ph.D. degree (or foreign equivalent) in Psychology, Biology or a related discipline by the time of appointment and show a commitment to science-based approaches to animal behavior and animal welfare. The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a record of high-quality teaching, canine clinical behavior expertise, and broader expertise in applied animal behavior. Individuals with Certification in Applied Animal Behavior by the Animal Behavior Society is preferred (https://www.animalbehaviorsociety.org/web/committees-applied-behavior-caab.php).

• A statement of teaching philosophy and evidence of teaching effectiveness of no more than 2 pages, which may include teaching, clinical supervision, and/or mentoring philosophy; examples of instructional or supervisory strengths; sample syllabi; and teaching evaluations.
• Contact information for at least three referees who are prepared to provide letters of recommendation upon request.
